Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
A volunteer who took out Denver recently finished their playtime together and said “I just love this sweet boy.” We think you will too once you meet him! Denver is 1 year old so he has many puppy mannerisms - jumpy, full of puppy zest, and still learning new environments and places. Denver can be a little unsure of new places, like the playground at AAC, and don’t be surprised if he takes a minute to warm up. The loud shelter environment is a scary place, especially for a 1 year old pup. He is so sweet, though, and when meeting someone new, he would gently take treats from them, but then cuddle up to his other volunteer friend for more comfort. We just know that with consistent support and a loving owner, Denver will continue to blossom.
A 1 year old like Denver deserves consistent walks, play time and attention, so we know that a forever home with a moderate/active lifestyle is going to really make him blossom as he is growing. Adopting a 1 year old comes with many benefits - you will build a lasting bond together by adopting him at such a young age, and he is impressionable so you can install positive habits and training!
We’d love for Denver to get the chance to build his confidence and grow into the beautiful boy he is! If you can lend your heart and home to adopt or foster him, please pop in today for a meet and greet.

Our shelter has more than 500 available cats and dogs every day! For pets at the shelter: Adoptions must be completed in-person at the shelter. AAC is open for adoption walk-ins every day from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. A shelter pet’s availability can change at any time, so we recommend choosing a few favorites. For pets in foster: Go to www.AustinAnimalCenter.org to find the pet's profile and click that pet's pink “Adopt Me” button. This will prompt you to complete an adoption questionnaire. Submitting an application does not hold the animal for you.
We have dozens of animals that won't be listed online yet because they're still in their stray hold period, but can be pre-adopted at the shelter in case their owner doesn't come for them.
Adoption Fees:
$80 cats & kittens up to 6 years old
$80 dogs 6 months to 6 years, 30 lbs and up
$100 dogs under 30 lbs and/or under 6 months
$30 small animals
No fee for senior pets 7 years and older
