Here's what the humans have to say about me:
**MARIGOLD HAS BEEN ADOPTED!** Sweet, shy, gentle Marigold is searching for a forever family. This beautiful girl is quite unique looking, and our best guess of her breed mix is Shar-Pei and Cocker Spaniel. Her age is estimated to be around 2 years, and she weighs 35 pounds, a great medium size! Pal's Place rescued Miss Mari from an overburdened, overcrowded, and overwhelmed animal control facility in Kentucky. She ended up in the shelter with her litter of newborn pups when her previous guardian could no longer care for them. Animal control facilities are loud, chaotic, and stressful environments for any animal, but even more so for a new mom with pups. Marigold did her best to take care of her new family. However, the stressful environment quickly took its toll on her very vulnerable newborns, and all but one puppy passed away shortly after their arrival. After losing all but one of her puppies, tender and timid, Marigold withdrew even further and spent much of her time huddled in the rear of her kennel. After hearing this sweet girl's plight, we offered to take her into our foster program at Pal's Place and offer her some much-needed love and TLC. Marigold has been in foster care for a few weeks and is thriving! Seeing this shut-down, defeated, scared pup blossom into a happy, silly, affectionate dog has been incredibly rewarding. Marigold is still very timid when meeting new people and unsure in new environments, but she gets more confident every day. Once comfortable, she showers her humans with an abundance of love and affection. She is being fostered with other dogs and gets along well with her canine foster siblings. Mari is crate-trained and does very well with her housebreaking when taken out regularly. Her ideal home is with patient and understanding guardians who can give her all the time she needs to adjust to a new home, continue confidence building, and provide plenty of love and attention. We guarantee it will be repaid tenfold! You may notice a squint and tearing in some of her pictures around her eyes. Shortly after her rescue, Marigold was diagnosed with entropion, a painful and irritating condition where the eyelashes grow inwards towards the eye, scraping the lens throughout the day. The condition was surgically corrected when she was spayed, and no further care is necessary. She is now enjoying pain-free eyes for the first time in her life! She is also fully vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm tested (negative), and ready to go to her forever home! Marigold's adoption fee to the rescue is $375. She is in a foster home on Chicago's north side and can be seen by appointment only after an application has been submitted and approved. Marigold is anxious to meet her new family; apply today if you think she is the dog for you!
