My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Introducing Kiva of Lake Tahoe, Ca. This 12- week old girlie is a perfectly delicate little 8ish lb puppy. She is everything you'd expect in a pure bred border collie puppy.

She's sweet and gentle- gives tender kisses and loves to be held. She's sassy- very determined about what she wants; I have given up keeping her off my coffee table. And she's fun- she likes to chase our dogs (and cats!) and is very good at jumping high. (We don't encourage this too much as her growth plates are undeveloped but she is a flyer!)

Kiva came from an accidental litter in Southern California and was with her mom and littermates until 11 weeks of age. She has had her first 8-week shots and her 12- weeks shots (2-10-24). She is microchipped. She will need her 16- week booster and rabies on 3/9/24. If she is still with me, I will take care of those.

Kiva is a puppy. She explores with her mouth though she doesn't bite hands or face too much. She will hang on loose clothes. She loves to drag around shoes. She doesn't chew on things in the house in a destructive way, but she likes to bring in sticks from outside. She also is never unsupervised so I can't say she wouldn't be destructive if left to own devices.

She is working on potty training. She still wees occasionally. She will sleep in her car kennel. Her home kennel training is coming along. She is okay in it if you stay nearby. She does not like to be alone. She prefers to sleep curled in the crook of your neck. She is confident. She greets anyone and everyone with an eagerness that is adorable. She has an off switch. She will nap and calm down. She sleeps well through the night and does not wake up before I do. She is learning place, sit, leave it and down. She's very, very food driven and enjoys praise and tug. She is young and she will change. But she has a good starting constitution.

About a border collie parent: - You've perhaps had herding or working dogs before; - You work from home or are retired. Or, you have plans for pup when you're away; - You are the type that enriches dogs lives and take them with you places; -Or, you work your dogs; - You know more than beyond basic Petsmart dog training or have means to hire a professional trainer. She's perfect now but herding dogs are a lot of work!; - You are active and/or plan to do dog sports or herding or something to keep her engaged; - You're patient. She's a loving, trusting, delicate baby and she needs a gentle landing spot for her new life. I hope you're interested in Kiva!

Kiva is available for adoption after 2/16/24. Please fill out a thoughtful and detailed application for consideration. If you have dogs, a meet and greet will be necessary before placement.

Here is the app:https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application There is an additional $50 spay deposit which will be refunded upon proof of spay and $20 microchip fee which includes registration and transfer to her new furever family. All adoption fees are used for future rescue efforts.
