Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Patch was surrendered to the rescue with 5 other dogs, who we will also be vetting in the coming weeks. His owner was having health issues and was elderly. He was not able to care for the dogs properly any longer and wanted them to have better lives with someone who could. Patch and the other dogs were pretty much confined to one room and really only saw the older gentleman. They are friendly once they feel comfortable but can be skittish and nippy initially with new people. Patch is fearful and undersocialized but he is young still. Patch has shown a tendency to be nippy and for this reason, it is best if he goes to a adult only home, which is what he is used to. He does come around once he feels comfortable. It's probably mostly a fear response and lack of receiving much in the way of social skills. Patch, we were told, is a chiweenie (chihuahua/dachshund mix) and is about 1 year old. He has done well with other dogs and we feel like he would also be fine in a home with cats. Patch just wants to live a spoiled dogs life where he can soak up someone's love and attention and he deserves that.
Patch saw the vet on 2/7/24. He is a bit of a mess but all is easily treatable. He did test negative for heartworms. He has been started on Simparica Trio for monthly heartworm prevention/flea control. He did test positive for hookworms and we treated him with Drontal for the hooks. Skin and hairloss issues as well as earmites were found on his exam so he was given a Convenia injection for the skin/hairloss and has started the Simparica Trio which will treat the earmites and fleas, which, most likely, caused the skin issues. Patch weighed 7 pounds as of 2/7/24.
If interested in giving Patch his forever home, please submit your interest and your adoption application via email or text ONLY to 352-215-3260 (phone calls will not be answered or returned from this number). Patch's adoption fee will be $250 to help cover the cost of his vetting and daily care while with us. We will only consider applicants who complete the adoption application and will determine whether the applicant would be a good fit for Patch based on the info provided in the application. If we feel that you will be a good match for him, we will set up a meet and greet appointment with you.
