My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hello, my name is Dennie (Benny) and I'm so happy you have clicked on my bio!  I was born in February 2022 and lived with a human who ended up abusing me.  At 7 months old I was found by neighbours, paralyzed and with 2 broken bones.  Luckily they took me away from that bad situation and brought me to a local shelter where I was seen by a vet.  Because of my condition the vet almost euthanized me-- that's when a sweet lady saw the love and hope in my big brown eyes and fought for my life!  After a full 3 month recovery, I now live with plates in my leg.  Still agile and active I am absolutely able to trot around and play with the other dogs at the shelter!

You'll find I am a serene and sweet pupper. I am fluffy, soft, and adore cuddles on a loving lap.  I get along well with the other shelter dogs and am not aggressive.  Some big dogs frighten me, so I would love your help keeping me safe and protected.  Typically the only times I bark are when I feel threatened by bigger dogs.

I am quite happy now: https://youtu.be/6-BV7gcj_cY and just know the right new owner will adopt me soon.

My ideal match would be someone who is patient, calm and, kind-- just like me! Someone who talks kind to me, lets me cuddle in their lap, protects me from bigger dogs, understands my sense of adventure and my love for toys! I’m only 2 after all, so I am still into toys and I am pretty curious, since exploring is how I learn best!

I am eager to follow commands and learn new things. I just wish I had my house training under control. I am hoping I can get it right, but right now the vet is not certain if the damage to my spine is permanent or temporary and only time will tell. So I still have some #2 accidents. Being in a shelter makes it hard for the staff to know how much I have improved, so my adopter should be prepared for diapers, just in case. With luck though, some acupunture or laser treatment will help too. I was in a crate for a very long time and now I just want a loving lap and a fresh start with someone I can be my loving self with. I hope you are my match!

I'm in love with attention from kids too and showering my affections on them, as well: https://youtu.be/S0XuZYp3eTQhttps://youtu.be/m4g4KYjxUS0

Here I am seeing kitties. No biggie.https://youtube.com/shorts/CEoFSv7_jYg. Likely can live with a cat fine.

Energy Level: moderate to moderate low

I get along with:
Dogs: yes
Cats: quite likely fine
Kids: yes

Fears: just big dogs right now. Please be patient assisting me in my transition.

Training: none
Leash skills: no. Please be prepared to train me.
House trained: No. Please help me learn!

Health notes:
I have some plates in my leg. I still have poo accidents.
I have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped.

My adoption fee wil be by donation, plus applicable taxes. This includes my transportation to Canada, if I am able to be accompanied by a flight volunteer directly to Vancouver.

Due to the present confrontational Middle East environment where this dog resides, airlines are minimally operating. He/She may therefore be delayed in arriving to Canada. He/She will eventually be sent, but we have no specified timeframe at this moment. If you are willing to wait, we and this dog appreciate your patience.

Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.

Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live.

Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.

Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in - at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you.

While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 - $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs.

The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.

Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.

[MID-EAST] *Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza. Bordetella is not given, as that has not been a problem in the Middle East.

[TURKEY] *Dogs receive 4D SNAP tests - which include: Heartworm, Ehrlichiosis, Leishmania and Anaplasmosis.

More about this rescue

Loved At Last Dog Rescue operates in the Greater Vancouver area. We rescue and rehome local dogs as well as homeless dogs from numerous countries around the world, including Mexico, Korea, China, Iran, Kuwait, Bahrain and India. Many of these dogs have experienced hardship and cruelty yet they are gentle and loving. We have found that dogs who have experienced suffering appreciate every kindness shown them. All our dogs are fully vaccinated, microchipped and those over 6 months are spayed or neutered.
