My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

**COURTESY POST** Please call Danielle directly if interested.  847-452-7742

This is Odyn. Odyn is looking for a spiffy new home and someone to call his best friend!

Odyn came from an out of state high kill shelter and we haven’t been able to find a foster or forever home for him in over a year! He has spent most of the past year in a kennel facility and he deserves better. He is about 45lb, maybe 5 years old. We believe him to be a Dutch Shepherd/Pitty mix. He’s gentle and sweet with a little bit of sass. He loves humans and will do anything for a treat. He loves playing fetch with his ball or squeaker. He is a big snuggler and will melt into your lap if you let him. Odyn is very smart and knows most of his basic commands. He loves his crate and goes into his crate on command, does well in the car and on a leash, is potty trained, and does not have destructive habits. He seems fine with other dogs and cats while on a leash or through a fence as shown in the video, but we haven’t been able to successfully introduce him to other animals when he meets them nose to nose and no fence. We could possibly consider homing him with well balanced dogs the same size or smaller if introductions went well, but prefer him to be the only animal in the home.

Odyn needs to be in a home with no children because he lacks a bit of confidence and the unpredictable behavior of children could make him nervous. He has not been behavior-tested with children. He would do best with a gentle, but structured human who can help him feel confident and secure, and one who is willing to continue any necessary training needed to build his confidence, if needed.

When you meet Odyn, his gentle eyes and sweet demeanor will snatch your heart right out of you. If you can’t commit to adoption, he is in need of a foster home as well!

Additional adoption info

Adoption Applications are screened to ensure no red flags are present that would indicate the animal wouldn't have a loving home for the rest of their lives. The application is also screened to ensure the home is the best possible fit for each pet. An interview is conducted over the phone as a secondary screening to discuss animal behavior, adoption process, commitment to the animal, or any questions that may have arisen from the adoption application. If everything is OK to move forward, we set up a time for the adopter to meet the animal with a dedicated volunteer in attendance. This meeting is also used as an opportunity to interview and ensure the pet is the right fit and no red flags arise. Following the meet and greet, if both adopter and rescue volunteers agree to move forward, a dedicated volunteer will complete a home check to ensure the animal is going to a clean, stable, and loving environment that fits their needs. The home check is also another opportunity to interview and make sure the pet is a good fit. Once all of this is complete, our volunteers arrange to bring the dog to the adopter's home for collection of the adoption fee, signing of the contract, and drop off of the animal.

More about this rescue

Our mission at 4Life Animal Rescue is to provide care and resources to animals in need. We offer adoption, education, training, and rehabilitation services to ensure that unwanted and neglected animals are safe and receive the life-long care they require and deserve. We also promote responsible pet ownership; and offer prevention and intervention services to families afflicted by harsh economic conditions to ensure their pet(s) remain a part of the family.

All animals in our care will receive any and all medical attention necessary and will not be adopted out without being spayed or neutered, given up-to-date on vaccinations, and being micro-chipped. In the event an adoption fails, or a family must surrender their pet, 4Life will always keep an open door and the animal will be taken in.

4Life is a non-profit, entirely volunteer-based organization located in Orange County California, and we rely on the generosity of our volunteers, donors, and fundraisers to operate. We fulfill our mission by collaborating with other rescues, our local shelters, veterinarians, boarding facilities, and local businesses.
