Sterling arrived to the shelter as a stray on 8/13/23 already very underweight, in November the alarm bells went off as Sterling lost a considerable amount of weight compared to when he arrived. Although the shelter is happy to see some incremental weight gain in 2024, he is still well below a healthy weight primarily due to the stressful lifestyle of a shelter 😐
Sterling is currently a candidate available for fostering with the shelter while he waits for his #Nextgig through adoption or rescue! Those interested in fostering can email PetFoster@longbeach.gov

ADOPTION POLICY
The adoption process at OC Shelter Pets is relatively simple. We require an application and a home visit by one of our dedicated OC Shelter Pets volunteers. Once your application and home visit is reviewed by our Board, you will be notified in writing of our decision.
REVIEW OF APPLICATION
The team at OC Shelter Pets reviews all adoption and foster applications and if approved will notify you and reach out to you over the phone to discuss potential dogs that will fit the needs of your home as well as our adoption fees. Please note that all adoption fees go towards the care of our rescued animals, all animals are spayed/neutered prior to being adopted and current on all vaccines.
HOME VISIT
We need all family members available for the home visit for any potential adopters or fosters. This gives us a chance to talk about rescue, learn about your lifestyle and your expectations for your rescued animal. If you have existing pets, this gives us an opportunity to meet them as well. We will also check the home to ensure it is safe for the animal, we will check the backyard area, gates, fences and screen doors (if applicable).
THE PERFECT FIT
Upon approval, we will start reaching out to our foster homes and describe your situation and what dog we believe will best fit your home. We will also look within the dogs at OC Shelter Pets Headquarters and determine who best fits your home dynamics. We will then coordinate a time for you to meet the dog. Please be patient as this is an "adoption process" and we want to ensure that our dogs are successful in their forever homes.
ADOPTION AGREEMENT
OC Shelter Pets will take back any animal that is adopted out, per the adoption agreement - the animal will automatically be taken back into rescue and the adopter will be in violation of the agreement if the animal is taken to a shelter or given away.
