My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Rico!

The charismatic 4-year-old Pit/American Bulldog mix with a heart as big as his love for tennis balls! Weighing in at a robust 67 pounds, Rico is the perfect blend of friendliness and easygoing charm.
Rico is a friendly and social boy, ready to bring warmth and joy into your home. His love for tennis balls adds an extra layer of fun to his easy going nature, creating a delightful companion for families seeking a playful furry friend.

At first, he was nervous with his canine friends, but after some adjustment he has been doing wonderfully with dogs since he`s arrived in our care. However, he doesn`t seem to enjoy his feline companions, so he needs a home with no cats.
Rico would do best in a home with children aged 10 to 13, creating a harmonious environment where his friendly and social spirit can shine.

Ready to welcome the charm of Rico into your life? Give us a call at 330-487-0333 ext 803 to schedule an appointment to meet him. Let the playful presence of Rico fill your home with joy. Your forever friend is just a call away!

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

All of our adoptable animals are up-to-date on all age appropriate vaccinations, spayed or neutered, de-wormed, de-flea and microchipped before adoptions are finalized. All dogs over six months of age receive a temperament assessment by our Certified Professional Dog Trainer to ensure appropriate placement. Also, many animals in our care receive basic obedience training to improve manners and increase adoptability.

We are currently doing adoptions by appointment only. Please contact us by phone at (234) 212-9843 or email at adoptions@summithumane.org, and an adoption counselor will return your message. They will review our adoption process, answer any questions, and tell you more about the animals currently available for adoption at our shelter and in our foster program. If we have a match for you and your family, an appointment will be scheduled to meet the animal.

Additional questions can be directed to our adoption team at (234) 212-9843.

More about this shelter

Since 1968, the Humane Society of Summit County (HSSC) has been the trusted caretaker and advocate for Summit County’s victims of animal abuse, neglect, and abandonment and stray animals suffering from illness and injury. We employ two full-time Humane Officers who respond to emergency calls, investigate animal cruelty, and, as warranted, prosecute offenders. We protect and care for our community’s abused, discarded, and forgotten animals. We strive every day to rehabilitate our rescued animals, find them great homes, and provide them with bright futures.
