My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Dottie

Dottie is 52 lbs of pure love! We think she is a Pointer mix, and at little more than 7 months (her DOB was 10-25-23) she is already a large dog.

Despite her young age, she is crate-trained, housebroken, and knows some basic commands (sit, off, leave it, let's go, off, go to bed). Dottie was one of a litter of six puppies born to a stray in MIssissippi. She's currently being fostered in Collingswood, NJ, which is where meet & greets will take place prior to adoption.
Dottie is very affectionate, absolutely loves to be petted, and still thinks she is a lap-sized puppy! She's very smart, curious, and playful. When she's not rough-housing with other dogs at her foster home, she is learning manners and impulse control. Like most puppies, she still benefits from a nap during the day, needs frequent potty breaks, is getting used to loose-leash walking, and is learning to love car rides, too.

Her perfect family will have time to spend playing with, and to continue socializing and training Dottie. A fur-sib or two, and/or human children would be nice but not essential. As long as she gets plenty of daily exercise and attention, she will be a very happy dog. Due to her size, a securely fenced yard is required. Continued use of a crate is highly recommended!

Exercise and activity needs: Moderate
Shedding amount: Moderate
Grooming needs: Low; occasional bath and nail trim
Reaction to new people: Friendly, curious
Good with dogs
Good with cats
Good with people; MUST supervise with
young children

Please email us at AlmostHome4Dogs@yahoo.com for more info or an application. (Local adoptions preferred — Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.)

NOTE: Most puppies do best in the company of an older dog who can teach them "doggy manners," so homes with at least one other dog usually will be given preference in puppy adoptions. Please read Suzanne Clothier's wonderful article, "It Takes a Pack to Raise a Puppy!" PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! We are NOT a shelter: All of our dogs live in private homes with foster families.

Come and meet the Almost Home dogs and their fosters at our Meet & Greet events, where you can learn more about our wonderful dogs from the people who live with them, find out which dogs are on their way and when they’ll arrive, and fill out an application to adopt or foster. We cannot adopt to homes where electric-shock fencing systems or training collars are used. For more information on the dangers of electric-shock collars, please visit banshockcollars.ca/studies.php .

We do not have an online adoption application; to request an application, e-mail us atAlmostHome4Dogs@yahoo.com. To speed e-mail processing time, be sure to note the name of the dog you are inquiring about in the Subject line. For Meet & Greet times and locations, visit our home page, where you also will find information on our adoption process and fees.

FOSTER FAMILIES ARE LIFESAVERS!! Can you open your heart and home for a few weeks to homeless shelter dog? Remember, by fostering a dog, you save TWO lives — that of your foster dog, and that of the dog who takes his place in the shelter! Come to a Meet & Greet and find out if fostering is for you — there's no reward quite like the feeling that you've saved a life ... or two!

More about this rescue

We are a small group of volunteers whose goal is to save the lives of homeless dogs suffering in high-kill shelters. In doing so, we hope to provide an alternative to the purchase of puppy-mill and pet-store dogs, thereby reducing the demand for and ultimately the supply of such dogs. We strive to match each dog with the right family after the dog has been observed in a foster home.
