My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

My name is Lacy, formerly known as Khaleesi. I'm a southern girl, originally from Louisiana. When
my brother and I managed to get out of the yard and take a nice stroll around the neighborhood, we got
picked up by animal control. Our owner retrieved us up but when we escaped from the yard again he
decided that he didn't want us anymore. Both of us were found to have heartworm. When we started
our treatment my brother got very sick and died, so I was left alone, sick and unwanted. The good
people of DPRPA decided I was worth a second chance and brought me north. What they didn't know
is that I was badly abused by that man. While I bond quickly to any female person, men scare me. I've
learned that my foster dad is a good person, but there are certain situations that scare me. I guess it's
PTSD and I can't get over that. I love when he pets me and he's sitting down, but when he stands I get
scared thinking he's going to kick me or beat me up. I know that won't happen but I get so scared from
what happened to me before.
We've been calling her Lacy to try to remove any connection to her former home. Lacy is a 5 year old
black/tan petite spayed girl at just over 60 lbs. She is free of her heartworms and has come through the
treatment with no lasting effects. She still sports the shaved patch of fur where the shots were given
but she's regained her energy and is loving life. We think she was kept outside in her prior life and she
had to learn how to behave indoors, including house-training. She has done very well and is now
learning how to signal that she has to go outside to do her business. She is starting to learn to walk
nicely on a leash. If you want an office dog she is perfect. She is quiet, calm and will lie on her bed
near you. Elsewhere in the house her crate is her sanctuary. If she feels threatened she will run to her
crate. But she is learning that the crate isn't needed and she is safe. She rides well in the car, lying
down and not whining or barking at anything passing by. She's very good at the vet too, but we go to
an all female vet practice. She does protect her toys from her foster brother. Occasionally they will
have a woofing match at one another but they have never bitten each other. Otherwise she and her
foster brother get along very well. She has absolutely no aggression to humans, even her foster Dad.
She lives for petting, cuddling and treats. Her favorite outing is meeting people and pets at the

Farmer's Market on Saturday where she loves doing the Doberman lean with everyone, even the men.
We are looking for a home for Lacy that is female only. She's been here over 4 months and is still very
scared of her foster Dad in certain situations. A female only home would be much less stressful for her.
Preferably it would also be an only dog home. She can be a thief, carrying shoes, socks, clothing, and
various items into her crate. She never chews or tries to swallow anything, but just wants them near
her. We think she has had puppies in the past and wants to cuddle these items. Preferably the backyard
would be fenced but she has also learned to take care of her business outside on a leash. She is a gem
waiting to find that perfect home. If you think you might qualify, fill out an application at https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/adopt/DPR/Dog
