My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi friends, I'm Love, and you're never gonna believe this, but ... I love love - giving it and receiving it. I'm a sweet, easygoing gal who's ready to leave the shelter life behind (all these loud doggo friends around me can make me a little scared) and find my fur-ever home. I'm easy to harness and walk on a leash, and I really come out of my shell when I get time outside my kennel. I like to soak up the fresh air and sunshine, sniffing and exploring. I'm calm around other doggos I see on my walks, and I also warm up to all the humans I meet, wiggling and giving kisses. I would thrive in a calm home with a patient family that doesn't mind spending a little extra time helping me open up. It won't take long for me realize you're my forever family, and then it's time for all the love!

A team member says, "Love definitely lives up to her name. I spent time with her in her room after our walk, and all she wanted to do was snuggle up in my lap. She'd give me licks and kisses and burrow her head in my lap or under my arm. Both of us would have been happy staying like that all day. She's so, so sweet and just needs someone to let her know she's safe and loved."

More about this shelter

Founded in 1965, Animal Humane New Mexico is the state’s leading private 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization serving more than 10,000 homeless and at-risk dogs & cats each year. We never euthanize based on age or length of stay and since 2010, have re-homed 100% of healthy pets in our care. We support every companion animal at Animal Humane with outstanding veterinary, social and emotional care, and love.

As a private nonprofit shelter, we receive no city, state or federal funding; each dollar judiciously spent is earned or raised. We are nationally recognized as a top U.S. charity based on financial accountability, transparency, and administrative-to-program cost ratios. Animal Humane is among only 9 percent of nationwide charities to have received five consecutive annual four-star evaluations, the highest possible, from Charity Navigator, including a top score of 100 for accountability and transparency.
