My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Petunia: The Playful Pit Mix with a Heart of Gold! Petunia is on the lookout for her perfect match—a patient and experienced adopter who can help her blossom into the amazing dog we know she is. While she may be wary of new people at first, once you’re in her circle, you’re in for a lifetime of cuddles, kisses, and goofy antics. A Day in the Life of Petunia: • Start the morning with some veggies or fruit (she’s a healthy snack enthusiast). • Master her impressive list of commands (she knows sit, stay, crate, paw, and more!). • Enjoy backyard playtime—think chasing balls, splashing in water, or conquering a puzzle toy. • Wind down with snuggles under a blanket (yes, she’s the queen of cozy). Petunia’s Perfect Home: • A quiet, calm environment with no other dogs or young kids. • A backyard for playtime and zoomies. • A patient and experienced human who understands her need for slow introductions and routine. Why Petunia is Special: • She’s incredibly smart, loves to learn, and thrives with positive reinforcement. • She’s a cuddle bug who wants to be your best friend once she trusts you. • Her goofy, playful side will keep you entertained for hours! Petunia isn’t just a dog; she’s a partner in life for someone willing to give her the time and understanding she needs to thrive.

Additional adoption info

An approved application, vet reference, personal reference check and home visit are required to finalize an adoption. We suggest a $200 donation that helps offset some of our expenses such as feeding, boarding, training, vaccinations, spay/neuter, and miscellaneous veterinary costs.
Adoption fees are used to continue to help homeless animals in need!

Go meet their pets

We are a rescue that is dependent on volunteers as we do not have a physical building. We rent space at a kennel in Upperco, Md. If you would like to meet one of our dogs please contact us to make arrangements. Thanks!

More about this rescue

Adopt a Homeless Animal Rescue (AAHA) is a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and assisting animals in crisis. We actively combat animal cruelty in any form.

We have a particular commitment to pit bulls and aim to raise awareness about the breed, help those in need, and educate the public:
•We seek to promote this lovely yet unfairly maligned breed as the sweet, intelligent, affectionate, and people-oriented dogs they are.
•We assume stewardship over their well-being and strive to make this world a better place for them.
•We serve as a resource and/or liaison for shelters, individuals, and the community at large, advocating for any animal in harm's way.
•We also function in an advisory role for private citizens who seek assistance and guidance in better caring for their pets.

We are a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.

Please help us help the animals!
