My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Dottie: A Sweet and Shy Wire-Haired Terrier Looking for Her Forever Home

Are you looking for a special companion who just needs a little extra love and patience? Meet Dottie, a charming wire-haired terrier with a heart of gold, ready to find her forever family.

Dottie's journey hasn't been the easiest. She came from a hoarding situation and, because of this, she is a bit shy and skittish around new people and environments. But don't let that fool you-underneath that timid exterior is a dog who just wants to love and be loved. In her time with her foster family, Dottie has blossomed into a loyal and affectionate companion.

Once Dottie feels safe and comfortable, she absolutely adores pets and will happily curl up next to you for some quiet cuddle time. She also gives the sweetest kisses to those she trusts! Though she may jump at loud or unexpected noises, she's a superstar on walks, staying calm and close, especially when cars pass by.

Dottie's dream home would have a fenced-in backyard where she can zoom around like the playful pup she is. Picture her racing back and forth, having the time of her life! She also has a soft spot for older, calmer dog siblings who can help her feel secure when she gets nervous.

While she's still working on building her confidence around new people, Dottie is house-trained and crate-trained-her crate is her cozy safe space. She's a big fan of chewing on bones and is incredibly well-behaved, never chewing up anything she shouldn't.

Dottie would do best in a low-energy home with patient adopters who understand that she needs time to adjust and come out of her shell. If you have a calm, quiet environment and the love to help Dottie continue her journey, she'll reward you with loyalty, affection, and the sweetest companionship.

Are you ready to give Dottie the forever home she's been waiting for? She's ready to meet you!

More about this rescue

A New Leash on Life has a goal of saving all the adoptable pets about to die in the municipal shelters of Alabama until we become a NO KILL state. We rescue, provide veterinary care, provide a foster home or adoption center spot, and find adopters who are good matches for homeless dogs and cats...AND horses, pigs, rabbits, and any other animal who needs our help. All animals are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, microchip, vaccines, testing (HW for dogs, FIV/Felv for cats), and whatever else they need before adoption.
