Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Pilar was entrusted to our care through our Final Wish Program after her owner passed away. She is 15 years old and weighs 63 lbs. She is very sweet, gentle, and great with other dogs, which makes her a perfect fit in our lobby as a greeter to volunteers and visitors, along with several other Frosted Faces. When she met a cat in the lobby, she ignored it! Pilar appreciates big comfy dog beds, being petted, and going for leisurely paced walks. She gives little kisses as thanks.
Pilar is so well-behaved and gentle that she has frequently served as an ambassador for FFF at community events. She welcomes attention and petting from everyone she meets, including small children, and can always be counted on to do well with the other dogs at the event. Pilar has also proven that she is the perfect date to take to restaurants, wineries, parks, coffee shops, farmers markets, pumpkin patches, and even outdoor concerts!
Pilar went on a 3-day Frosted Field trip to Idyllwild with a volunteer, who reported that she was a perfect travel companion! Pilar did great in the car for the 2-hour trip each way and was so well-behaved in their rental cabin. She and our volunteer enjoyed short hikes on the trails and walks through the neighborhood where their cabin was located. They also went to many dog-friendly restaurants, and Pilar earned many compliments from other diners about how well-behaved and mellow she is.
Pilar is a true shepherd, she is looking for her person and is at her happiest with personal attention and direction. She gets around great with a little traction and can go for short walks or hang out in public with calm and grace. And look at her beautiful smile!
Pilar currently lives in a Foster home. We received this great update from her foster mom:
"Pilar really is a sweet old lady that seems to like to hang around her family and keep an eye on things but doesn't need too much exercise or attention. She's content to nap nearby and get some head scratches. Once we got into a routine and figured out what she likes to eat after the first week or two, she's been a super easy addition to the household, and she's so gorgeous!
Pilar has been fine with all people she's met, not overly eager for attention but accepts pets. She's generally been good with the other dogs in the house (all large, young adults). She will occasionally get defensive and resource guard her bed, but since she's slow and the other dogs run away, there's been no major issues.
Pilar is pretty low energy and can't walk very far. I let her guide the walks and turn around to go home when she wants, and it's usually after a very short time. She gets up a few times during the day to wander the house and yard but is very mellow and naps often.
Pilar is an absolute sweetheart. She will have a home here as long as she needs."
