My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

One of the sweetest, most attentive dogs you'll ever meet, Ladybug has quickly become a favorite among Milo staff and volunteers*. This lovely lady is people-oriented, gentle, and low-energy. She is happy with short daily walks and will settle contentedly at your feet for hours. She needs a home where you will be home most of the time, so a work-from-home or retired household is ideal.

A volunteer took her for an outing and said this;

"It was a pleasure having Ladybug out for a couple of hours! She was perfectly behaved in the backseat of my car, sitting up looking out the window at first, then laying down resting. We went to the beach but since the water/waves seemed to scare her we stayed up above on the grassy area. While sitting together taking in the views she leaned up against me. She has this way of looking straight into your eyes, very adoringly. She's THE most loving dog. We then took a walk that she seemed to enjoy but after awhile she pulled back toward the car. She needs reassurance and affection in unfamiliar settings. Driving back we stopped in the town for a drink of water. We met a couple of dogs, she showed little interest but definitely no reactivity. Regarding her fecal incontinence, during our time out she made one dropping on our walk and one small one on pee pad in back seat. In my opinion this love bug is a catch despite her incontinence issue! All that love and loyalty makes up for it!

Ladybug does come with some special issues: arthritic hips and fecal incontinence (which can be managed by erecting a controlled area within eyesight of her human, a diaper, and/or easy access to a yard). The staff at Milo is happy to give additional tips on setting Ladybug up for success in a home environment, so please ask!

This easygoing doll of a dog has simple pleasures: a patch of grass to roll around in, belly scratches, and her human. Whoever opens their door to Ladybug will be so happy they did: she will repay your love exponentially!

*Her adoption fee has been sponsored by volunteers.

More about this rescue

The Milo Foundation is an established 501(c)(3) nonprofit, no-kill organization providing an alternative for homeless pets throughout California, through education, adoption services, and providing sanctuary for animals until permanent homes can be found.

Founded in August of 1994, The Milo Foundation Sanctuary is located on two hundred and eighty-three acres in Mendocino County - offering lots of room for the animals to run and play. The Milo Sanctuary animals typically (but not exclusively) are harder to adopt animals and those needing more rural type homes, such as dogs with social or behavioural challenges, feral cats, horses and other farm animals. The Milo Point Richmond Adoption Center is where the majority of our new rescue intake takes place, typically friendly, adoptable cats and dogs, puppies and kittens rescued from shelters where they were facing euthanasia. The Sanctuary is where highly active or reactive dogs can go and have plenty of space, other canine companions (if they are dog friendly) and live in a stress free environment until such time as the right adoption match can be found.

The Milo Sanctuary is what enables Milo to be a No-Kill organization. Milo brings dogs back and forth from the Adoption Center (MPR) to the Sanctuary to give dogs a break from the stresses of the kennel environment and back to MPR later to try again at being adopted. Potential adopters also do come up to the Sanctuary to adopt, by appointment.
