My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

I'm a good boy. No one who has visited the shelter in the past year has noticed me, but I'm a good boy! I was so scared when I came in after I was abandoned on a rural highway in our town. I was too afraid to come to the animal control officer when called, so they had to live trap me.. Then they sent me to the prison program where I learned to love my handler and I got along with the other 4 dogs in the program. Now when I see people I know happy to see you!  When I am with people I don't know, I am anxious and sometimes I don't show my sunny side (so no small children as I need my personal space at times), but when I see someone I know I am happy and joyful. The shelter staff says they can't bear that I've been with them a whole year. I walk well on lead and crate well. I will need a fence or some confinement when I am outside so I don't run off, but I am most comfortable on your couch anyway. I am not a barker. I jump up into the crate to travel and dance when you come to take me for a walk. I just need that one person who is willing to become my forever friend. Please take a chance on me. More about this shelter

The Menifee County Animal Shelter located in Frenchburg, KY is a non-profit volunteer group that operates the county shelter. Before we started handling the shelter, almost all of the animals were killed on-site and buried. A small group of volunteers felt compelled to change this so we began to manage the shelter. We rescue unwanted, neglected and abused cats and dogs that would otherwise be euthanized or left homeless. Our mission is to rescue and dramatically enhance the lives of these animals through community education and by providing high qualify foster care and medical attention, including spay and neuter care, for those animals in need. Working with the community, we strive to change the lives of these animals by matching each pet to the best possible home based on their individual needs and personality. We are very limited in the number of acceptable pplacements in our area due to the large value of animals we serve at any one time - we usually have 70-90 animals and only 9 kennel runs so it is essential for us to work quickly with rescues out of state to avoid having to euthanize our animals.. In the past year we saved over 1200 animals. PA-based rescues, we are PA licensed.
