Here's what the humans have to say about me:
If you are looking for your best friend, you need to meet Willy in North Beach!
Willy is an approximately 2-year-old Miniature American Shepherd that weights 25lbs. He is on the smaller size but has a HUGE heart.
Willy loves humans of all ages! He is comfortable around adults and children. In his previous home he lived with young children and has done well when he gets pets from children on his walks. He has not met a single person that he doesn't like.
Willy is neutered, microchipped, on monthly heartworm preventative and up to date on his vaccines. Willy likes to play and roughhouse with his foster sister, especially tug of war with toys. He enjoys walking and hiking but still pulls on his leash, so his foster mom has been using a gentle leader with him. Willy was able to hike to the beach where he loved running and playing in the bay!
Willy has a good recall but needs some practice with it, as most young dogs do. He knows sit, down and is working on stay. He listens well and wants to please. He would benefit from a basic training course or even agility training.
He travels well in the car. He will watch out the window to see where he is going or takes a nap in the seat. Willy sleeps all night in his crate and will easily go into his crate when it is bedtime. He will bark in the crate if he knows you are home, and he is not with you. I have used a Kong toy filled with peanut butter in the crate to help with barking. He is housebroken and has had no accidents while with his foster.
Willy does get along with cats, but he is too playful with them. He will leave them alone whenever they are just laying around, but if they are playing or running around, he will chase them and try to play.
Willy is not an apartment dog. He is a more dominant dog and if he has a doggie sibling, he would be best with another young dog who can match his energy. Willy will be happy as an only dog if his owners are active and give him loads of attention. Willy is very social when out in public too.
Willy is being fostered in North Beach, Maryland. If he sounds perfect for you, please fill out the application:
