My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Cinder
I understand that Cinderella had a pretty unfortunate life before meeting her fairy godmother. I`m called Cinder (probably due to my black coat), but I can relate to the C-rella. I was found as a stray cat back in January of this year. All new HSHC cats go through some basic blood tests and screenings, and, unfortunately, my tests revealed that I am both FIV+ and FeLV+. I was probably infected during my time as a stray cat. I am 1.5-years-old, and at one time, I had an owner because I was already spayed when I got here. I wish I could remember how I became homeless. But anyway, now that I was diagnosed, I`ve been living in a foster home. My foster mom understands the consequences of my two diseases. FIV is a slowly developing virus that can affect a cat`s immune system. It cannot spread to humans or other animals. It cannot be spread through litterboxes, food and water dishes, or snuggling or playing. FIV+ cats can live with FIV- cats and not transmit the virus. She understands FeLV, or feline leukemia, is a retrovirus that only infects cats. But it is spread among cats living together, sharing bedding, dishes, litter pans, or mutual grooming. My lifespan may be shorter than an average cat`s, but that life can be filled with happiness for both you and me. My foster mom says that I am doing really well. I continue to make myself at home, and I am so sweet and great to have around. My foster mom has been like a fairy godmother to me, and she has shown me that life is still worth living, no matter how long it is. I am looking for someone who does not mind me being the only cat in the family and has lots of love to share with me. My paws are crossed! 6-5-24

More about this shelter

With an open admission policy, a No-Kill philosophy, and more than 3,100 animals crossing our threshold each year, we have still maintained a 98% placement rate over the last 3 years.

This is an amazing feat for any organization…let alone one that takes in some of the most abused, injured and seriously ill animals imaginable.
