Here's what the humans have to say about me:
FOSTERED IN: Adoption Center - Frankfort, IL 60423
ESTIMATED DOB: 2021
COLOR/BREED: Brown Tabby Shorthair
KIDS: Likely
DOGS: Unknown
CATS: Yes
HISTORY:
Chatterbox was originally found as a stray and was transferred to our care from one of our shelter partners.
ABOUT:
There isn't a person alive who wouldn't adore this big, handsome hunk of a cat! Chatterbox is a gentle giant who just wants to smear his chubby cheeks against your legs to show his affection. He isn't as vocal as you would expect of his namesake, but he does make the occasional meow or chirp (usually to greet you or when he is getting excited about getting wet food). He does, however, have a massive purr, befitting of his large size. Being the mature adult that he is, Chatterbox is fairly low energy, and is definitely more chill than he is active. We haven't notice him having any interest in toys (in fact, ones that make noise seem to scare him), and he'd much rather receive lots of pets than engage in playtime. He also loves his scratching pads!
Chatterbox gets along well with other cats, or would likely do just fine as a solo cat. He isn't dominant or pushy towards others, but he probably expects the same respectful treatment from other felines. He has not had exposure to dogs.
Now, there is one more thing you should know. Chatterbox has tested positive for FIV (Feline immunodeficiency virus), but this will not prevent him from living a long, happy life. The disease can only affect felines and is rarely spread to altered, friendly FIV-negative cats. It cannot be spread by sharing litter boxes, food dishes, playing or grooming. Transmission is only possible through deep puncture wounds (think non-neutered male cats fighting over territories) - again, Chatterbox is a lover not a fighter, and is not the type to get into these types of serious scuffles with another friendly housemate. Additionally, he does not require any medicine for his condition, but since his immune system is a bit more suppressed than normal, he has the potential to get sick easier. For indoor cats, this is generally a non-issue as he will not be exposed to diseases and viruses in the safety of his home. Don't be scared by the myths people (and even some veterinarians!) spread about FIV. Take your time and do the research and make your own decision about whether adopting an FIV cat is right for you if you have other felines at home.
