My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet gorgeous "I love everybody" Leo (estimated DOB: 7/27/2022), an easygoing, curious, and confident orange boy. Leo loves to be loved and is a purr machine. He enjoys human interaction and loves to play. He asks for his laser toy by standing and staring purposefully at his toy box. Whether chasing the laser pointer or knocking his favorite little ball down the stairs and carrying it back up, it is not uncommon for him to play for a solid 20 minutes straight! Leo’s independent time is spent napping in his chosen chair or cat bed and watching the squirrels and birds from the window. He is not a lap cat, but he likes having his humans close by.

Leo was rescued in the summer of 2023, along with 30 other abandoned cats and kittens. Soon after his rescue, we noticed that Leo had episodes of an unknown origin that came on suddenly, lasted a few moments, and abruptly stopped. Following a series of diagnostic tests, the vet concluded that Leo suffers from focal seizures. His seizures are brought on spontaneously and by excitement. Specifically, he becomes happy and excitable in the morning which brings on a small series of mini seizures that last 10 seconds or less. Additionally, he sometimes becomes overexcited when being pet, which can trigger a seizure. Leo is treated with two dosages of phenobarbital each day. This medication, along with the wonderful relationship with his foster family, has improved his strength, weight, vigor, and management of his seizures.

Given his medical needs, Leo needs an experienced adopter. Because he will need careful attention and has historically not done well with other cats, he will need to be the only cat in his home. He is still a young cat with lots of energy, so his adopter will need to be able to give him the attention he needs. It is our opinion that play keeps him sharp mentally and may help with his seizures; surprisingly, he does not seize during or after playtime. For all that he deals with on a daily basis, Leo is a happy, easygoing boy who is looking for his forever home.
