Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Meet Big Bear, a glorious, sweet, gentle giant who wants nothing more than food in his belly, pets, scratches, a warm place to sleep... and a good brushing every now and then.
This handsome beast showed up at a feral cat colony, dirty and scruffy, and would run to greet his feeder, clear across the parking lot... even trying to climb into her car.
We don't know his story but it's obvious he's had to defend himself out there... being an un-neutered male. Unsterilized males are at the highest risk of contracting FIV (like HIV in humans, not AIDS). Today, during his neuter surgery, we had him combo-tested for FIV/FeLV and it came back positive for FIV.
For this reason, I'm listing him a "special needs" - although there's no reason why he can't live a normal, long, happy life... and doesn't need to be sequestered from other cats, necessarily... although he does seem to prefer being the only feline in the house. FIV is typically transferred in utero OR through deep bite wounds - while battling over females and territory.
Since Bear's been living in his wonderful foster home; we've learned he will do best in a home without other cats or young children. Ideally, he'd be best suited for a more calm environment, perhaps a young couple who works during the day, retired person or someone who works from home.
You'll find his complete rescue journey chronicled in Photo Album #31 on our Facebook page: "Save The Leadwell Kitties" as well as video updates... along with updates on ALL our adoptable cats and kittens. *Be sure to check out his adoption video uploaded here!
