Junior was a frightened little guy that was surrendered to Long Beach Shelter with his mom when their elderly, vision-impaired owner had to relocate to alternate assisted living housing. His mom was adopted at the shelter, and Junior proved to be even more scared when left alone. We scooped him up to become a Frosted Face on November 29th. He is 8 years old and weighs 15 lbs.
Junior ran around the play yard with a leash attached to him at first, so we could guide him in and out of his kennel. In addition to how scared Junior was, he also had a painful eye ulcer that we could not heal, so very soon after arriving at FFF, he had to have an eye enucleation, a dental, and neuter surgery. He felt so much better after having his very painful eye removed!
Junior was soon sneaking up to seated guests and smelling them with curiosity. Then, instead of hiding, he began spending time hanging out in the middle of the littles yard, sunning himself and shyly approaching volunteers to nudge their hands for pets.
Junior left on a two-week Frosted Fling in January 2024 that turned into a Foster home. He has blossomed in a calm home environment, and we have learned he is great with cats and other dogs, is the best greeter when his people return home, and is house-trained!
Junior's Foster Mom reports:
"Junior has come such a long way since we started fostering him back in January. He follows us around the house and waits for his Foster Dad to come home every afternoon. Every time we bring him to Frosted Faces Foundation for Open House or to board, everyone is amazed at how friendly he has become. We frequently dog-sit our previous foster dogs and Junior gets along with all of the dogs. He loved sharing the couch with our kitty, Rosie, who recently passed away.
Junior is potty trained and has never had an accident while we were at work. He still does not like to have his leash taken on and off, but we continue to work on that. Junior has become so much more comfortable being walked on leash. He has no problem with small and large dogs that he meets on walks and hikes.
Every day when I come home, Junior is so excited-he eagerly follows me around and showers me with affection. But here's the truly heartwarming part: about ten minutes before his Foster Dad is due to arrive, Junior sits and patiently waits for that familiar sound. As soon as he hears Foster Dad's car approaching, he runs straight to the garage door, ready to give him the warmest of welcomes!
Junior's love and loyalty shine through in these moments, and now all he needs is his forever family. If you are looking for that couch potato dog that loves to snuggle up next to you while you read a good book or watch tv? Then Junior is the guy for you!"
Junior has come so far and just needs a patient family that will give him time to trust and adjust to a new home. Might that be you?
