My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Zazu!

In April 2023, 11-year-old Zazu was found in a back yard with a collar embedded under his armpit, and he was thin and dirty. His finder took him to San Diego Humane Society to be claimed. While there, he had surgery to repair the laceration under his armpit from the collar and was also neutered.

When Zazu wasn't claimed by the end of his stray hold, we scooped him up to become a Frosted Feline. We got him scheduled for dental surgery, and he lost 21 teeth. Zazu then went to live with a Foster Family, and with their patient and loving care, he has blossomed!

His Foster Mom reports

"Zazu has had quite the year! He came to us last August right after he had most of his teeth removed and spent the next several months under the bed. Luckily, he had a bell on his collar, so I knew he moved when we were not in his view.

Eventually his feeding spot was moved out into the open and he would let us see him for a few minutes. I slowly started moving his food bowls towards the hallway after a few months. Eventually, he started eating out in our hallway, and we could see him if we stood back far enough. I would call out his name and talk to him every time I walked by his door and sometimes would lie on the floor and talk to him from afar! I had decided it was okay if we never touched him. It was really up to him and his comfort level.

Zazu really made a huge turn when we got another foster, a 6 month-old kitten in February. I think having another cat around gave him confidence and a role model. After a few weeks of having the second cat, Zazu started letting me pet him! We had him for 7 months at that time. At this point, I think Zazu would like to be petted all day.

Since then, Zazu has learned to play with toys and also play-chases our other foster. He loves Greenie treats especially when they are hidden in his favorite puzzle. He also has a favorite cat bed that he enjoys napping in. Every night Zazu sleeps in our bed and will climb on top of us when he knows we are awake.

Zazu loves to watch the wildlife from the safety of the window! He comes and spends time with us downstairs every night.

Zazu and our foster both adore each other, and I think he is much happier having another cat around. I never could have imagined when we got him 1 year ago that he would be where he is today. It is a good reminder to give them space and let them be who they are. And never give up!"

We are so thankful that Zazu has such a wonderful foster family. Now all he needs is a forever family who will continue helping him feel safe and loved! Might that be you?
