My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Chandler, 4 mos Yorkshire Terrier puppy
Chandler, DOB Sept 18/23, arrived into our care with his brother Joey through no fault of their own.

They are Yorkshire Terriers (possibly some other breed mixed in)
The brothers arrived very young and tiny, and we have been working on their growth/weight gain and training and socialization

We have now completed all health checks and age appropriate vetting

His adoption will be on a strict neuter contract due to his young age, which requires his new family to live within 1 hr of St Jacobs, to return to our vet in Waterloo for additional vaccinations and his neuter surgery which will be paid for by Hobo Haven of course.

Notes from Chandler's foster family

YOUR FOSTER DOG'S ENERGY LEVEL:
high
PLEASE ELABORATE ON YOUR FOSTER DOG'S DAILY ROUTINE FOR EXERCISE, TRAINING ETC
Chandler is up early to go out to do his business, back in for breakfast and out again after he eats. Then he plays and sleeps until it is time to do it again 4 or 5 hours later.
IS YOUR FOSTER DOG FOOD MOTIVATED?
He is very food motivated
GOOD WITH DOGS BOTH IN THEIR HOME ENVIRONMENT AS WELL AS MEETING NEW DOGS? PLEASE DETAIL
Chandler was surrendered at a very young age and is learning how to play nicely, but he will require ongoing exposure to other balanced dogs.
HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG RESPOND TO MEETING NEW PEOPLE IN THEIR HOME ENVIRONMENT AND OUTSIDE OF THE HOME?
He is very excited to meet everyone.
ANY GUARDING BEHAVIOURS
He is very focused on what he wants and will need to learn to trade toys for treats and not to take other pets' resources. Right now we are introducing the idea of "drop it" by trading what he has for a higher value treat.
HOUSETRAINED?
no
CRATE TRAINED?
Yes
PLEASE ELABORATE ON YOUR FOSTER DOG'S BEHAVIOR IN THE CRATE.
He spends up to four hours in the day sleeping or playing in his crate, and 10pm -5:30am overnight in the crate
DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG SHOW SIGNS OF SEPARATION ANXIETY?
No
PLEASE ELABORATE ON YOUR FOSTER DOG'S LEASH SKILLS.
Chandler is very interested in the world and loves leashed walks. He is proud and increasingly confident in his harness.
HOW DOES YOUR FOSTER DOG REACT WHEN YOU TOUCH THE EARS, TAIL, PAWS ETC. PLEASE ELABORATE.
He is beginning to get exposed to fur trims and nail trims with positive reinforcement of calm behaviour. This is a work in progress as he is very impatient and will need to be appropriately set up for success with ongoing counter conditioning, desensitizing training for grooming
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE DOG'S PERSONALITY/TEMPERAMENT
Chandler is excited by everything. He is bouncy and willing to learn. He will want companionship, lots of exposure to new people and places and training to become fully socialized.
THINGS NEEDING IMPROVEMENT SPECIFICS PLEASE
Chandler can get snappy with his brother and needs to be redirected or given time to calm down.
POTTY HABITS:
He pees and poops outside on a schedule, and is beginning to indicate if he needs to go outside by going to the door. He rarely urinates in his crate or in the house anymore.
PLEASE DESCRIBE CURRENT ROUTINES AND PREFERENCES THAT WILL HELP THE DOG SETTLE INTO THEIR NEW HOME:
Structure and routine as he gets older will increase his housetraining skills. He loves to play and snuggle when he's tired
He will run toward a whistle and the sound of a call of, "puppy, puppy, puppy!"
STRENGTHS/AREAS THEY HAVE IMPROVED ON:
He is having less accidents in the crate. He is starting to watch for body cues from the other dogs to help him recognize when a dog wants to play.
TRANSPORTATION-ANY MOTION SICKNESS OR ANXIETY IN VEHICLES?
Chandler travels in a crate with some whining but generally settles in to sleep.
PLEASE DESCRIBE THE PERFECT ADOPTIVE HOME FOR YOUR FOSTER DOG BASED ON WHAT YOU HAVE EXPERIENCED.
Chandler will need a home that has experience or has done their research on terriers. No young kids.
His new family will need to be willing to work patiently on typical puppy behaviours including nipping, chasing, housetraining, and leash skills using training classes and daily practice. He loves to chase anything that moves. He would love a patient, confident dog friend who can manage having a puppy in their home without reacting or becoming intolerant.
ANYTHING TO ADD?
Chandler is a busy, snuggly little bear who deserves a family that will have the time and energy to teach him to be a responsible citizen.

Chandler does chase cats with classic Terrier prey drive and is not suitable for a home with cats or small animals. He would be suitable with another younger, playful canine companion who has a balanced temperament able to tolerate a young, high energy puppy who is still learning boundaries, OR fine as an only dog with appropriate mental stimulation and socialization daily, with an experienced dog home who is aware of the terrier temperament.

He will require someone home often due to his young age , an active family prepared to invest all of the time and energy into his training, providing mental stimulation and understand that he is a busy puppy who will require commitment to his development and ongoing training needs.

If you are seeking a lap dog, he isn't the dog for you, he is a terrier with typical terrier traits and applicants should do their thorough research into Yorkshire Terrier traits prior to applying.

Due to his young age/life expectancy, he is not a suitable match for older seniors, nor for older dogs/dogs who would not appreciate a playful terrier puppy.

Children must be 12+ and dog savvy.
