NOTES FROM FOSTER FAMILY:

Carlin is a very loving pup.

He does extremely well with women but is a little skittish around men.  He can become very jumpy if a man raises his hands and may start to bark and run away, with the right training will do well.  He has not been evaluated around children yet think he will be fine. He plays well with other dogs and might even be happier in a two-dog home, especially if the other pet likes to play.   He has not shown any aggressive behavior, but he is a puppy and will do a quick door dash if you’re not paying attention.

He travels in a car very well.  He walks well on a leash and only needs a little training on pulling.  He knows “Sit”, “Down,” and “Come” – but mostly when it comes to food.  We believe he has the talent to be well-trained, as each day he shows progress. He LOVES toys and treats.  And at night if you give him a bone, he will lay right beside you on the couch, giving you those warm eyes and many kisses.  He does GREAT sleeping in his bed for a full 8 hours.

Carlin would make a great pal!

Carlin will need regular grooming.  You can see his "before" picture with his long hair when he came in.  He needed a fresh start and was trimmed down to allow the hair to grow back properly.

NOTE:  Local applications are given first priority and some out of town areas will not be able to be processed.

At this time, we will only be able to process applications that have an excellent current vet history.  If you haven’t had a pet or verifiable vet history we will not be able to process your application.

Additional adoption info

Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment and is a responsibility that should be taken very seriously. Our dogs may have been lost, abandoned, abused or surrendered by a previous family and may require time to adjust to a new home. Many times there will be more than one application for a dog but we strive to match each dog with the most appropriate family. At this time, adoptions are limited to within the state of Florida.

Our goal is to place healthy, well-adjusted dogs. All of our dogs are vet checked including spayed or neutered; heartworm tested (placed on preventative if negative and treatment started if positive); up to date on vaccinations; bloodwork; urinalysis; dewormed and provided with any other medical care necessary. Our dogs are also microchipped for permanent identification. Our adoption donation, which is normally $300.00 for adults and $400.00 for puppies, is to help offset these veterinary expenses. Our adoption contract allows for a dog to be returned within 7 calendar days for a full refund; otherwise, all donations are non-refundable after that time. If for any reason you decide you no longer can keep your adopted dog, the dog MUST be returned to Canine Castaways.

More about this rescue

Canine Castaways, Inc. is a non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing dogs in need, rehabilitating if necessary, and then adopting to approved homes where they will be loved as part of a family while also encouraging responsible pet care and striving to increase awareness of the consequences of pet overpopulation through educational programs and materials. We do not operate from a shelter but rather a network of foster homes in different areas of the state so it may not always be possible for you to meet more than one of our dogs at a time. While this can be frustrating for a prospective adopter, the foster home setting allows us to better evaluate the dogs' temperaments and help them adjust to family life. We deal primarily with dogs under 30 pounds but will also take in larger dogs if a foster home is available.
