Hi everyone! My name is Sumo, but I sometimes go by ‘Sexy Sumo!’
How did I end up in rescue? Let me tell you. I was a stray. Walking the hot streets of Phoenix when an animal control officer picked me up. I was brought to the shelter, and waited for 3 days until my ‘time was up.’ No one claimed me. My foster mom doesn’t think very many humans in my life have ever cared about me. I was due to be put to sleep because I had too many medical issues. My hair was coming out in patches, I had cherry eye in both eyes, infected ears, and my paws were inflamed and infected from the hot concrete.
Love-A-Bull to the rescue! The nice bulldog rescue gals were notified of me, and of course, took me in under their wing and got me the vet care I needed. (As well as tons of TLC!) My eyes are fixed, my blood work was done, I have been neutered, and the vet said that my missing fur and coarse coat was due to malnutrition. I was almost a yellow color. I am supposed to be white!
Those days are behind me, and I have been told that my new owners, wherever and whoever they are, will be so amazing!
I am a wonderful boy, very well mannered, and just so happy to be alive and feeling better! I deserve the very best that life has to offer. I have been a model citizen in my foster home. I sleep in a crate, am very quiet, and I like my foster siblings. I would do great in a home with a spayed female dog, no males please. I tend to ‘come on a bit strong’ when I see a new girl dog, they are just so pretty! So, a gal who can tolerate me always wanting to play and kiss her, will be the girl for me. Also, I love to chase kitties and try to play with them, so if you have cats, be aware of that. As far as human kids go, since I am a big brut, and LOVE to play, I could knock a kid over with no effort. With that said, only children teenagers and up please.
Are you willing to open your heart and home and help heal my broken heart? If so, please apply for me!
Please note, my foster home will be choosing the best home for me! Be sure to read our adoption process and requirements, and don’t forget to submit your application.
*****My adoption donation will be $400. A home visit and reference check will be done to make sure I am going to the most perfect humans in the world!
I can’t wait to meet my forever home.
You MUST fill out an application if you want to be considered for my home. NO inquiries will be returned without an application on file. We DO NOT adopt outside of Arizona, and we do not adopt to homes with more than 2 dogs.

Would you consider making a donation towards the rescue dog’s care?? Your donation will go towards their food, treats, toys and vet care. They will re-pay you with a personalized e-mail and big wet kiss!
*WHY ARE SOME DOG’S ADOPTION FEES HIGHER THAN OTHERS?
The adoption donation fees are based on age, health and needed vet care of the dogs we have taken in. The younger, healthier dogs help to pay for their cousins that need a little more TLC. You adoption donation fee also covers the cost of the spay/neuter, vaccinations and microchip of your new dog.
*CAN WE COME SEE YOUR DOGS?
All of our dogs are in foster homes around the Phoenix area. We require an application to be filled out, a home check to be done, and vet reference check to be complete before having you come meet the dog of your dreams! We will ONLY contact you when we have a potential match.
*I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL DOGS WHO I THINK WOULD FIT MY HOME, BUT THEY ARE NOW ADOPTED. WHY?
We take a lot of time to get to know our dogs in rescue. Some are barkers, which cannot go into condos or apartments, some require companionship of other dogs, and some are not good with children. Each dog is unique!
*IS THERE A WAITING LIST OF APPROVED APPLICANTS?
YES! That is why even if you are not ready to adopt, get your application into us if you want to be considered for a future adoption.
*I AM LOOKING FOR A PUPPY OR VERY YOUNG BULLDOG.
Well, you have come to the wrong place. Rescue dogs on average are between 3 and 7 years old, we do not get puppies into rescue. We would, however, be able to refer you to a reputable breeder.
*BULLDOGS ARE SO EXPENSIVE! WHY?
If you are looking for a cheap bulldog by choosing rescue, need not apply! Rescue dogs are dogs that are going to need ongoing vet care, and a lot of love and training from their new humans. We only adopt to homes that truly want to RESCUE a homeless bulldog. This is not the place to find a “cheaper” bulldog.
*I HAVE AN APPLICATION ON FILE, AND HAVE CALLED A FEW TIMES, WITH NO RESPONSE.
We will contact you when we believe we have a dog that is a match.
Please remember: Not only are bulldogs adorable and cute, they are also high-maintenance and expensive! ☺
