My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kash a lovable 1-2 year old black Pitbull mix with a heartwarming tale of resilience and a spirit that's impossible not to love. Rescued in the nick of time in Philadelphia, Kash was facing a grim fate simply due to shelter overcrowding. But now, safe and sound, this "bite-sized" bundle of sweetness is ready to charm his way into your life and heart. Kash is a special boy who has shown immense gratitude and affection since his rescue. He enjoys nothing more than spending his days cuddling with his foster family, proving that he's truly a lap dog at heart, despite what his appearance might suggest. His sleek black coat and bright, attentive eyes are just the icing on the cake of his endearing personality. As sweet as he is, Kash is looking for a specific home that can cater to his needs. He would thrive with a savvy, multi-dog owner who understands the importance of slow and careful introductions to other dogs. Kash is all about making friends, but he likes to take his time to get comfortable in new canine relationships. He would also thrive as an only dog! A home without cats would be ideal, as he does chase them in playful curiosity. Kash's ideal home would be one where he can continue to feel secure and loved, with plenty of opportunities for snuggling and play. If you have the heart and home to give this deserving soul the forever family he's been dreaming of, Kash would love to meet you. He promises endless gratitude in cuddle form and loyalty that will never waver. Come and see if Kash is the missing piece to your family puzzle!

Read What Licorice's ACCT friends have to say:

1/26 Licorice got out for some activity time today! In the kennel he was all over body wiggling and waiting right by the door. He did try to bust through the door preemptively, but was easy to leash. When we entered the room he went right for the ball pit! He found some tennis balls to chase and play with. He LOVED playing fetch! He can be a little grabby and excited, so a two-ball method is ideal for him; he trades his ball like a superstar! After fetch we played tug-o-war with a tire toy. Licorice was very respectful, and didn't try to grab near my hands! He enjoyed chewing on the tire for a few minutes after we were done. He never got mouthy with me or jumped on me, even though he was super excited to get out and play. Overall, a very good boy that needed some extra play time!

1/23 At gate: jumping, some barking, high and pulled back ears, mid/high tail wags. Not steerable at gate. Engaged in push/pull and rough and rowdy play. Can be high energy for some dogs, would probably do best with dogs who can match his energy.

1/21 Per Volunteer Licorice was such a fun dog to take out today. He was excited to come out but easy to leash. Outside he loves toys of all kinds! He was fun to play with because even though he wants to chase toys, he allows you to pick it up and patiently waits for you to throw it. Never jumpy with me. He had so much fun- he especially loves squeaky toys. Dogs passed us while we played and licorice paid them no mind.

1/16 Licorice is such a cutie! He is so petite and adorable. I met him in his kennel in iso, and he approached the door very wiggly. Seems friendly and social.

1/9 Per Volunteer 1/8: I took Licorice out on Sunday morning, and he was a lot of fun to spend time with. He's an energetic little guy, but he didn't pull much on the leash. He would run or prance in front of me and then turn back to look at me, and when I walked closer to him, he would repeat this routine. When I stopped walking, he would start to run in circles in a zoomie-like fashion or put his front paws up on me and allow me to pet and scratch him all over. The moment that I said, "sit", he would stop and sit calmly and look up at me. Licorice would immediately sit when I showed him a treat, taking them gently but not eating any of them. Licorice appears housetrained, pooping soon after going outside. When we were outside and Licorice spotted another dog through the fence, Licorice would pull and bark at the other dog. Indoors, with a couple of passing dogs in the hallway for the photoshoot, Licorice sat patiently at my feet, and watched the other dogs pass by. I had no issues taking him out of his kennel or returning him.

1/6 Took Licorice out yesterday to test out more with tennis balls. We did trades for a while, and similar to the day before he was quite obsessive about his tennis balls. Once again he'd play a bit of keep away but trade without issue. I tested out with the guarding stick again and he had no reaction. I pet him while he held the ball and he was a bit stiff but continued chewing on it. I put my foot next to it and he again was a bit stiff but continued on. I inched my way closer and closer and would grab the ball when he'd briefly drop it by accident. After he had no reaction to that, didn't try to get there before I grabbed it or react, I began head petting while he held the tennis ball. He had no reaction to me petting his face, I then moved closer to his mouth and again he had no reaction. I ended up grabbing it straight from his mouth which he was completely tolerant of. He waited patiently for me to throw it again, didn't try to run over and grab it. I did this a few times in a row, each time he was fine with me grabbing it straight from his mouth.

1/4 Licorice was wiggling at the front of his kennel with soft eyes and mid level wags. He jumped on the bars briefly but then jumped down and was easily leashed. Exited without issue. Licorice explored the eval room at first, and was very focused on getting all the smells in. When the handler grabbed his leash he followed and gave her fast low wags. He allows all over handling and will gently scootch closer for more. He is very well mannered with handling, staying floor level and sitting right at your feet.

When Medical Staff first evaluated Licorice he was in apparently healthy condition, showing no obvious signs of illness or injury.

On 1/9 It was determined that Licorice had a doggy cold or upper respiratory infection. He was treated with Doxycycline.

On 1/22 it was determined that Licorice was vomiting in kennel. Medical staff evalued Licorice and found nothing obvious wrong.
