My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Wally is about 10 years old and 60 pounds.

Wally was adopted last year and it was going so well, they loved him and he loved them. He especially loved it when the grandson came to visit. Due to a terminal medical diagnosis for the adopter, Wally is back with us looking for a forever home this time, we will consider foster-to-adopt.

Wally gets along with humans of all ages, just as ready to play as he is to settle down and cuddle. He would do great in a multi-generational house. He alerts to new people, and he might look tough, but it doesn't take much to win over this big lovebug. Wally likes to take his time on walks, enjoying all the wonderful smells and sights. On longer walks, he and his foster parent have a compromise where Wally gets to sniff at his leisure for the first half, then they pick up the pace for the latter half. Wally went to training to work on his impulse control when small animals like squirrels dart by (Wally is a regular at Candlestick Point), and Wally is doing great.

This pup is perfectly potty-trained! He even understands the command to "do your business" in the backyard, and hasn't had a single accident at his foster home. Wally is a patient pup, and has been very cooperative with all sorts of indignities like grooming and eardrops.

Wally is a very smart dog, and eager to please. Left alone, he generally does well with a frozen kong and space to roam, but he'd much prefer to be with people. He is not an off-leash candidate and should not be in a home with other small pets, but should do OK with a female dog about his size.

If you are interested in adopting or just meeting Wally, please complete our online adoption application at    https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/  . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the Northern California.

Additional adoption info

The Grateful Dogs Rescue adoption procedure is designed to find a good match between the dog and adopter. Our goal is a happy foster to forever transition. The adoption procedure includes an application, interview, home check, and an adoption donation. The adoption donation helps to cover spay/neuter, shots and other medical care given before the dog is made available for adoption.

More about this rescue

Grateful Dogs Rescue was founded in 1990; its mission is to rescue dogs not made available for adoption at San Francisco Animal Care and Control, and other local shelters, through no fault of their own. Rather than letting these dogs be euthanized, Grateful Dogs saves as many as possible by fostering these dogs in a loving home until a forever loving home is found.

Grateful Dogs Rescue is always in need of new foster homes!  You can make a difference by fostering. The number of dogs we can save is dependent on having foster parents to care for them until they find their forever homes. All of our dogs are in foster care.
