Check out our sister brand, Kinship, for vet chat, a nutrition calculator, basic obedience training, and (much) more. So you're never flying solo in this pet parenting thing.
Do you want to meet a sweet, affectionate and loyal girl who wants to be your devoted best friend and constant companion? Are you looking for a dog with high energy that will go hiking, running and exploring with you and loves car rides? Or are you looking for the next champion in the large dog agility class - a dog who is fearless, fast, agile, strong and loves running through small spaces? Do you need a watchdog and bodyguard? Do you love playing with a big dog? Then Frida is the dog for you!
Frida is a gorgeous young girl who had a rough start in life. She was turned in as a stray to the NYC Manhattan Animal Care Center in mid-June, very thin and scared. After about 5 weeks she was put on the euthanasia list and would have been killed if Happy Go Lucky Mastiff Rescue had not placed her into a foster home.
Frida is 66% German Shepherd, 20% Dutch Shepherd and 14% Tervuren. These are all very intelligent breeds and Frida is a very intelligent dog. She came to her foster home with no training, and has learned many commands: Sit, stay ("done is her release word), look, wait, down, off, come, heel.
At about 16 months old (birth approximately Sept 1, 2022), Frida is considered a dog "teenager, so a little rebelliousness and sassiness will be part of her personality until she is about 2 years old. She definitely knows what she wants, and that is playing fetch and running-off energy.
Frida still pulls hard on a leash and is still learning leash manners. For this reason, she will need a fenced-in yard accessed directly by a door from the house. An electric fence will not work as she is fearless and tough. Frida is crate trained but not yet completely housebroken. Frida is a large dog at about 72 lbs. She is tall, sleek and all muscle.
Frida has an intense prey drive. She needs a home with absolutely no small animals or cats. She likes her foster brother but plays too rough for him. She may do well with another large, young dog who also likes to play rough. Frida is strong and clumsy and may knock down young children, so no children under 12.
Kind Regards,
Fran DiBernardo
