My personality

My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Reba is a sweet young Great Dane that was found as a stray with a broken leg and another leg non-weight bearing. We believe she had been hit by a car before being discovered by her finders and it was discovered that the back leg that was non-weight bearing had an old injury that had not healed properly. She was underweight and was crawling with fleas when we picked her up 12/30/2023.

Reba is a sweet, affectionate girl who loves to lean on her people for pets and gets along with other dogs. She is house trained and crate trained. Reba is decent on a leash, but would benefit from continued training and an anti-pull training collar. She is a typical Dane and just wants to be with her people! She does the Dane-lean and follow you around and lay at your feet while you work. She is laid-back with spurts of zoomies and other silliness - which is a bit of a struggle while she's trying to heal from surgeries! :)

Miss Reba is healing from her TPLO (knee surgery) performed 2/16/24 and her front leg is healing up as well! She will have a long scar on her knee from the surgery and her front right leg is a bit larger than the left from healing the break, but other than that, she is a normal, happy young dog. She was spayed 3/27/24 and may need to have another knee surgery unfortunately, but is otherwise ready for her furever home!

Help us find miss Reba her forever home!

6/1/24 Update: We may be able to avoid another knee surgery for Reba! We are hopeful she just needs to build the strength in her leg and re-learn to use it properly as she still favors it but it does not appear to cause her pain. So if we can help Reba use her leg more naturally within a month or so, she shouldn't need another surgery. Help us find her forever home!

Update 10/22/24: I really don't know why Reba is still here! She is a sweet, cuddle-bug, goofball who doesn't think she's too big for your lap! To help her get adopted faster, her adoption fee is partially sponsored and will now be $275 instead of $350. Please help Reba find her forever home!

More about this rescue

We are a volunteer-run nonprofit dog rescue in Huntsville, TX. Our organization is named for a rescue Papillon who belonged to the president of the board before passing away in August 2021. Dot and the other heart-dogs we've lost have inspired us to help address the pet-homelessness problem in Texas. Our focus is an adoption program and would like to eventually expand to financial assistance for spaying & neutering in our community.
