My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi there, I’m River, a 2-year-old pit bull mix with a unique look. I have one blue eye and one brown eye, and a mostly white coat with a black splat near my tail. I’m a sweet and loving girl who likes to cuddle and give kisses. I’m spayed, vaccinated, and on heartworm treatment. I will continue to receive heartworm prevention from my rescue until I test negative. I’m crate and house trained, but I need some help with leash training. I prefer to be the only pet in the house.

I love every person I meet but have not met any children yet while being fostered. I’m very protective of my people and I get nervous around other animals. I have separation anxiety and I don’t like to be crated when people are home. But once my people leave the home, I calm down and peacefully sleep in my crate. I’m looking for a patient and caring owner who can give me the attention and affection I deserve. I’m a big goofball who will make you laugh and smile.

I am being fostered in Greensboro, North Carolina but can be transported to other states for the right home. I’ve had a rough past, but I’m ready for a new start. If you’re looking for a loyal and adorable companion, I’m the one for you! Please fill out an application and my rescue will be in touch if we are a match.

Go meet their pets

Our adoptable dogs are all in various foster homes and can be met by contacting rescue. Rescue will then provide foster home's contact information. Meet and greets will be arranged between foster and potential adopters. We also have adoption events at Petsmart on various dates which can be checked on our Facebook page, Operation Save a Shelter Dog.

More about this rescue

Our Mission

Operation Save A Shelter Dog is a foster based, IRS-recognized 501c(3) rescue whose mission is to work with shelters on the East Coast by saving dogs at high risk of euthanasia or that have little hope of adoption in their current condition. Not only is it our goal to find furever homes for our dogs, but also to educate the public on the importance of spaying, neutering, vaccinating and providing preventative care for their pets.
