My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Mistletoe! If you’re looking for the perfect balance of an affectionate lap dog and a fun-loving adventure buddy, Mistletoe might be exactly what you’re missing! She can sometimes be shy at first meeting, but quickly she will wrap her paws around your arm for hugs!

This 2-year-old, 43 lb hound/terrier mix has an active side; she loves playing fetch, chasing the hose, and splashing around in her paddling pool. On the flip side, Mistletoe is incredibly affectionate—she adores kisses and cuddles and will happily curl up in your lap.

One of her endearing quirks is her unique way of getting back scratches—she rolls her tennis ball along the wall of her kennel to scratch that tricky spot! Mistletoe would love to have a human of her own who has always got her back. She's a sweet, treat-motivated learner who already knows her potty training.

More about this shelter

Abandoned Pet Rescue (APR) is one of the largest no-kill animal shelters in South Florida with the mission of rescuing and sheltering abandoned and abused cats and dogs with the goal of finding them new homes. APR's adoption center has about 150 cats and 30 dogs, all of which receive nutritious meals, veterinary care, enrichment and love.

APR, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, was founded in 1996 by a group of volunteers who were trapping, spaying and neutering feral cats and quickly realized the greater need to help abandoned pets and advocate for a no-kill community. APR is funded solely by generous donors and grants.
