My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

A SWEET & PROTECTIVE COMPANION:  Approx. 6 years old / Approx. 49 lbs.

Hi, my name’s Claudia!  Mostly Mutts rescued me from animal control, and I sure soak up lots of love and attention from the nice shelter volunteers (and my wonderful previous foster) while I wait to meet my furever family!

• OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS:  I met some dogs recently at Mostly Mutts, and gave some mixed signals at first, but I did eventually warm up to them.  I tolerated and was passive to the other dog in my foster home, though I don’t really like to play, and I think I would really enjoy being an only dog. / I haven’t officially met cats at Mostly Mutts, however I have shown a prey drive with other small animals like squirrels and birds, so it is likely that I would want to chase a kitty. / I have liked the kids I’ve met, but I don’t like people coming into my home, so I think older mature kids (15+) that will follow the guidelines about this would be best, and of course, let’s meet.

• PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL:  I am very reactive to people coming into my home, so I must meet people outside on a leash before they come inside as I see it as my duty to fully guard my home and my person.  My trainer is working with me on this, and they can give my forever family guidance on how to best handle this behavior.  I’m a snuggly and sweet girl with a happy nature and am glad to see my people – I love any opportunity to show off my skills and charm!  I am not a barky dog, but I do bark or growl briefly when I hear a strange noise that I think may need your attention.  Despite this, I am not reactive on my walks, even if another dog is barking at me or I see another person walking/running near us – I just ignore them.  In fact, my main focus is sniffing the ground and staying concentrated on our route!  I made a great first impression at Mostly Mutts, as I was calm and sweet for my shelter bath upon arrival.  I am a powerful girl and can jump very high, even clearing a gate in the Mostly Mutts lobby without a running start. Come meet me and be prepared to fall in love! / My energy level was 6-8 when I lived at the shelter, but in my foster home, it’s more like 5-7 as I enjoy lounging as well as playing and going for walks.

• SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY:  I am a student in the Mostly Mutts University training program, where I have learned the ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘come’, ‘stay’, ‘drop it’, and ‘leave it’ commands, as well as proper door etiquette, how to accept friendly strangers (outside) without jumping, and how to walk nicely on a leash. / I didn’t love being in a crate in my foster home, but I also don’t seem to need one.  When I am crated – I come out very excitedly! I slept on a dog bed in my foster’s room and sometimes in her bed too.  I know not to take things that are not mine, so my foster would usually leave me out of my crate while she went to work, and I would entertain myself by playing with my toys.  My foster and I would go on a long walk each morning that got my day started on the right paw – so I could be good for the 6 hours she was away.  / My potty habits have been good on the shelter schedule, and in my foster home too, going out every 4-5 hours and sleeping through the night.

• LIKES/DISLIKES:  I love toys, lying in the sun, playing fetch and chewing on my bones – Benebones are my favorite!  I can self-entertain with a toy for quite a while, I just have so much fun with them!  My foster also discovered that I love carrots, so she gave me one every day as a treat. I am a big snuggler and would love to cuddle up with you for a movie on the couch.  Walks with my person are also great, I’d like some of those regularly, please.  I love to roll over on my back outside and do some ‘tummy rub dances’ – essentially rubbing my back on the ground and wiggling around until you give me scratches, so cute!  / I get a little nervous in the car and occasionally get sick.  I hope I’ll feel better with more practice.  The hair dryer and vacuum are suspicious to me, so I just avoid those.  Other than that, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training.

• MEDICAL:  I'm current on vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed.  I seem to experience seasonal allergies so I’m on Apoquel for the summer and it’s possible that I may need to stay on it permanently.

I’m looking for a wonderful home where I will be a much-loved family member!  My adoption fee is $299.00, and I’m located in Kennesaw, Ga.

Who We Are:

Mostly Mutts is a 501(c)3, non-profit organization, staffed almost entirely by volunteers!

Our Mission is to help the Unwanted, Abandoned, Abused and Sick animals in our local counties. We fulfill this mission by working closely with County Animal Control Facilities, saving those who are in imminent danger of euthanasia, or those with needs which require specialized vet care that many other groups will not consider: major orthopedic issues, heartworm positive treatment, skin conditions, neglect and abuse
