Ellie is 6yo, weighs 45lbs, is up to date on her vaccines, is spayed, and is microchipped. Ellie's guardian offers the following: "She knows 'quiet' for no barking, 'sit', 'down' for lay down, 'up up' to get into a vehicle/on a bed or sofa/up stairs, and a double tap on your thigh to come here. Ellie will bark at trucks passing by during walks. She sometimes gets started by loud noises (thunder, fireworks) but significantly less so these days. Currently she has free roam in my bedroom during the day. In our last home she had access to the entire apartment. Ellie does okay with car rides. She can become agitated in the car especially if it's a sunny day with a lot of reflected light. But she handles short drives to the park well. During several hours drives I tend to give her a melatonin treat."
Ellie's guardian explains why he has made the difficult decision to rehome her:
"I am no longer able to financially support her. Having a dog has made it difficult for me to obtain safe and affordable housing. She is currently limited to a single bedroom and I am not able to provide her with the home she needs or deserves."
Ellie's guardian offers a brief medical history:
"She has a few mild health conditions that are easily managed. She has a zinc deficiency which is easily managed with over the counter zinc pills. She thinks medication is treats as eats it happily. She also has acid reflux which is resolved by feeding her 3 times a day. The vet describes her as a healthy dog. She has a scar on her back that was there when the shelter found her but it doesn't affect her."
Ellie's guardian states the following regarding children: Although Ellie hasn't lived with children, his guardian recommends her living with children, stating:
"Ellie has gotten along well with my cousins who are all over the age of 10. She has selectively gotten along with children under 6 when going on walks with friends, but due to her size she can be a little scary for small children and has bumped into a 3 year old causing him to loose his balance and fall over."
Ellie's guardian states the following regarding dogs: Ellie hasn't lived with or otherwise been around dogs, so his guardian doesn't recommend her living with dogs, stating:
"Ellie tends to bark at other dogs on walks. She sometimes has been able to friendly greet and meet other dogs. Other times she's lunged and barked at them. This behavior has significantly decreased over the years I've had her."
Ellie's guardian states the following regarding cats: Ellie hasn't lived with or otherwise been around cats, so his guardian doesn't recommend her living with cats, stating:
"Ellie tries to chase stray cats on walks and sometimes barks at them. She sortly lived in a place with a cat and they were kept on separate floors. Ellie was very interested in the cat."
Ellie's guardian describes her as:
Couch potato
Playful
Friendly
Fence Jumper
Likes to be touched
Affectionate
Independent
Always at your side
House-Trained
Crate-Trained
Likes men
Likes women
Ellie's guardian describes her ideal future home:
"Ellie loves to be around people. She would be happy to spend her days cuddled up by your side. She likes long walks and hikes but also does well with 3 short bathroom breaks throughout the day. She can climb fences so she either needs a tall fence or I keep her on a tether in the back yard. She likes laying in the sun and people watching so access to a street facing window would be good for her."
