My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Benji is a hoot! This playful fella has all the happy antics of a young pup, but the experience to know some basics to being in a home. Benji walks good on leash, has good house-training manners, and enjoys a good romp in the yard before settling in for the night. Benji is at a great size too, not too big or too small at 40 pounds. His lineage is no longer a mystery as we had a DNA test donated, and turns out he mostly Australian Cattle Dog with a splash of Labrador and Supermutt!

Benji is the number one choice for our Dog Day Out program and receives A+ remarks from his volunteer friends. He does well in the car, is up for any adventure, and really enjoys a pup cup at the end of the day. Although Benji has done well at the shelter hanging out with other dogs, he's shown jealousy tendencies when he's in a home, so he would do best as an only dog at home (no kitties either, please!). Benji would be a great choice for someone looking for a friend that can still keep up on walks or hikes, but is over the puppy stages of things. He'd also do great with someone who road trips a lot or even does full-time travel. The best way to get to know Benji is to come meet him yourself and talk with his caretakers. They're here Tuesday-Saturdays 9:30AM-3:00PM and would be happy to introduce you!

Benji is approximately 6 years old and weighs 40 pounds. He's neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, heartworm negative, and current on all his flea/tick/heartworm preventatives!

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Tuolumne County is a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization established December 12, 1947 . At that time, however, there was no facility. The animals available for adoption were kept in volunteers’ homes. In the late 1980’s, the Humane Society gained a business office, but the animals were still kept in the homes of volunteers. Then, in 1997, the Humane Society acquired its current facility in Jamestown where we house animals available for adoption and provide other community programs such as spay/neuter assistance.

Our mission: Find Homes for abandoned, abused and unwanted cats & dogs, while promoting responsible pet ownership, and maintaining a clean and safe haven for adoptable unwanted dogs and cats.

We are 100% supported through private donations and volunteers.

The HSOTC does not euthanize an animal unless our team agrees its quality of life is critically compromised.

We accept as many animals for adoption that our donations and volunteers can support. More donations and volunteers=more happy adopted pets and fewer animals euthanized.
