My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Simons journey to finding his forever home has been quite an adventure. This delightful pup
was discovered as a stray, but his sweet temperament and eagerness to learn caught the attention of a prison service dog training program. Simon was welcomed into the program, where he had the opportunity to further develop his skills.
While initially thriving in the training program, the demands of the busy lifestyle and long hours spent in a crate began taking a toll on Simon. The stress became overwhelming, affecting his performance and overall well-being. Recognizing the need for a change, the program made the compassionate decision to transition Simon into a foster home where he could flourish and regain his happiness. Upon entering the foster home, it was evident that Simons true personality quickly resurfaced. He blossomed once again into the happy and vibrant dog that he is known to be. His foster family provided him with the love, care, and stability he needed, allowing him to heal from the prior stresses and find his true self once more.
While Simon is cautious when faced with new noises and experiences, he has been able to overcome most of his fears when given time to inspect the new scary thing at his own pace. With patient guidance and positive reinforcement, Simon will continue to adapt and grow more comfortable in different situations.
Simon is a sensitive pup who would thrive in a calm home (no children) within a quiet neighborhood. This environment can help minimize his exposure to external stimuli, allowing him to feel more secure and relaxed. Simon is a homebody, and while he loves being in nature, he's less anxious when he's able to enjoy time in a secured yard or deck space rather than a walk in the outside world.
Simon appears to be dog-selective, but if we find a dog he matches well with, we believe that he would benefit from having a canine playmate who is around his size.
Simon loves to play and can make a game out of anything, including his current favorite "toy", plastic nursery pots, which he tosses in the air and rolls all around the yard at his current home. He makes the cutest grunting noises when he's excited. A large fenced yard would be a play time paradise for him!
Simon is incredibly smart and enjoys hunting for his meals, which his foster mom hides in cardboard boxes, rolled up towels and various dog puzzle toys. He has a great nose and will sniff out even the hardest-to-find treasure.
Simon loves to learn and knows a number of basic cues, including sit, down, wait, leave it, up, and off.
He knows his name and will come when called most of the time. He knows to go to his bed or his place in the kitchen to settle in order to get treats.
When not playing, Simon loves to snuggle with his people. He follows them throughout the house and will plop down on the ground at their feet whenever they stop moving, hoping for a belly rub.
Simon is housetrained and knows how to use the dog door. He isn't given free run of the house just yet (he's a bit too creative for that right now!), but he settles into his room easily for bedtime or when his people leave the house. He happily comes into the shower for bath time since he knows it means he will get a peanut butter treat. He handles nail trimmings and vet visits without any issue.
Simon has had a tough start, and the world is a very scary place for him. He needs someone patient and kind who can give him the time he needs to learn that he is safe and loved. And in return, he'll reward you with some of the best snuggles any 60-pound lap dog ever gave!
