Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Our handsome Frederick is an athletic prankster with a love for life that makes us dizzy! At two years old this gregarious American Foxhound was found roamin’ the North Carolina woods and was relayed to the local shelter by County Animal Control.
We are astounded that no bereft owner came to collect Frederick, but that is a sad fact of life for many Southern Hounds. He was transferred to our Connecticut Rescue, and not a day has gone by that he hasn’t given us a giggle.
Frederick is a happy boy, who transitioned through the unwieldy rescue process with ease. He has adapted nicely to our routine and has proven to be an outgoing, friendly boy.
Frederick is a tall, leggy dog and weighs just 40 pounds, although he could fill out to 45 pounds and still be within normal weight range. He bears the classic American Foxhound short, flat tri-colored coat. A glance at his profile suggests a smidge of Whippet posturing.
Frederick is a high energy dog, tailor made for Agility competition. His sleek physique is ideally suited to jumping and running activities. He would make an ideal running or walking companion. Also, he could easily join an active adult home, or hang with the kids in a busy family that would put him center stage in all the action. This beautiful boy loves other dogs and would thrive in a multi-dog home with other well adjusted, friendly dogs.
Frederick loves companionship and would not be happy relegated to the back yard, where boredom and frustration can get the better of him. He needs a fair amount of exercise and focused playtime, and would benefit greatly from ongoing obedience training to provide mental stimulation. He is slowly learning his commands, although he can become distracted easily. He is very treat motivated and responds well to Positive Reinforcement and Leadership techniques, and seems to enjoy his training sessions.
Frederick has good house manners, and is mostly house trained and crate trained. Adopters should expect to troubleshoot the occasional accident that will inevitably occur during his transition to a new home. He has been neutered, and has received routine vaccinations and health screenings.
