My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Please meet ARCHIE!

who could resist this face?

While ADR.org usually rescues from high Kill Shelters in CA, this fellow caught ADR.org's eye and heart.

ARCHIE came to ADR.org through a cooperation with the Humane Society in Bend, OR.
ARCHIE’s prior owner was admitted to the hospital sometime in December and unfortunately died in hospital care.
First the neighbors were feeding ARCHIE while he was mostly outside alone- missing his owner. As this was not a sustainable situation and ARCHIE was not doing well, the decision was to bring him to the local shelter- as there was no further plan.

ARCHIE is an 8 yr. old Pure-Bred cream-colored Chow, brings about 60lbs to the scale. He is neutered, microchipped, and up to date with vaccinations.

ARCHIE needs to have easy access to a well-secured garden/yard. He knows the purpose of a DOGGY DOOR.
He had bloodwork and urinalysis done while with ADER.org which came back with no vet concerns.

He is alert with other dogs, not reactive but selective. ADR.org thinks that having him as only dog might be the easiest on ARCHIE. We do not know how he is with cats.

ARCHIE was shaved down at the shelter as he was so matted, and his fluffy fur has been growing back wonderfully.

ARCHIE is a stoic fellow that LOVES to walk and get his sniffs outside in the forest, and he takes his time. He rarely barks but can get very alert when he thinks that there is “danger.”
Having a caring and dedicated home for the rest of his life, a comfortable dog bed and continued good nutrition would make this fellow happy. He is crate trained and rests and waits there patiently. He lives for his walks and food (best time ever for him - he told me).
ARCHIE is a delightful corky fellow and ADR.org is looking for a home that pampers him, has calm energy, and tends to his needs.
If you would like to hear and see more of him (photos/videos), please contact the founder by sending an email to: ADR@animaldefenserescue.org and tell us a bit about yourself and why you would love to meet/adopt ARCHIE. Please add some photos of your home, and yard or anything else you would love to share. ADR.org will send you an application once you have reached out.
ADR.org cannot wait to see him in a good and fitting home.

NOTE: ADR.org will not ask for an adoption fee. Instead, the founder is welcoming a donation amount of your choice to be able to continue with saving ONE dog at A time.

WOOFLY,

ARCHIE

2.

Interview

a 45-60min phone call will follow once the potential adopter has emailed the application back.

3.

People have to be willing to travel to Orcas Island, WA- an 90min drive from Seattle, and a 60min ferry drive.

Additional adoption info

Adopters will request an application by sending an email to : ADR@animalDefenserescue.org

Each prospective owner fills out an adoption application. All applicants must live in WA (exceptions are possible), and we ask that children in your home are at least ten years old. We usually have limited information of history of our rescue dogs and are therefore very careful about placing them in households with children.
We require that everyone in the immediate family, including your current dog (if you have one) come to the appointment to meet your potential new dog. Adopting a dog is a big family decision and requires a commitment from everyone.
At the appointment, we will help you assess whether the dog is a good match for you and family or not.

Before you bring your new dog home, you must sign an Adoption agreement with Animal Defense Rescue. In addition, a $ 375$ adoption fee is requested. The adoption donation is non-refundable.
Please remember that adoption contributions barely cover our expenses and only defray the costs. Additional donations are greatly appreciated and will help us continue our life-saving work.
Step 4: Post Adoption Follow Up
Our goal is to help you enjoy life with your new dog to the fullest extent possible. If issues arise, or you just need some good advice, we are happy to do follow-up counseling by telephone or in person. We can also suggest local dog trainers.

More about this rescue

AnimalDefense Rescue is a small non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing primarily dogs from high-kill shelters in mostly CA, as well as homeless, lost and abandoned animals in WA , and rehoming from owners who can no longer care for them for important reasons. By building and working with the rescued dogs at her home, the founder and president assures asessment, training and rehabilitation . ADR.org works with local veterinarians to make sure future adoption homes will have a clean and complete health record for the adopted dog, ADR.org finds well-matched, and carefully screened adopters and adoption homes to ensure the dog will NEVER be returned to a shelter again in his lifetime.
AnimalDefense Rescue will serve as a resource to pet owners by providing education and information on responsible pet ownership, including the importance of spay/neuter, positive behavior training, and good nutrition.
