Sophia is a dainty little one looking for love. Found as a stray on 12/19 a kind citizen brought her to ACCT to get started on the life she is mean to live! One in a home filled with toy, treats, love, and affection!
Sophia's friends at the shelter shared:
Per staff 1/6: Sophia has spent Friday and Saturday in the office and has been a lovely companion. She was sooo excited when I began setting up the office for her. Every time I'd leave the office and come back she'd greet me with a hug and full wiggles and acknowledge each new item I put in. For the first ~30 minutes of her office time, there were no big blankets clean in the laundry room and I had to gather a variety of baby blankets. Sophia was so gracious and made sure to sit on every single one after I put one down, looking at me so sweetly with fast mid level wags. When I was able to get a big blanket she immediately settled on it. I brought over a kong and toys for her and she lay calmly working on the kong as I did work. Sophia truly loves with all her heart, she is so loyal to the people she trusts and just wants to be with them as much as she can. Every time I come in it's the sweetest greeting I could ask for. She is so happy when I ask her to go on a walk and she does little hops and tippy taps. She walks so well on leash and is efficient on walks, has no interest in being outside for long when it's cold either! While I eat lunch she'll look at me curiously for a few minutes, then lie down on her blanket and relax. She does tend to prefer women over men, and will sometimes hide by my legs under the desk when a male staff member comes in, but with those she knows/ is open to meeting she doesn't hold back! She'll wiggle right over and give hugs to everyone she meets.
Per staff 12/28: Sophia was so sweet with me while I had her out today. She was so excited to see me and jumped all over me, leaning in and practically giving me hugs as I gave her butt scratches. She was feeling super playful today and zoomed around with me. She sat so nicely for treats and took them very gently. She had been wearing the same dress for a while, and she allowed me to swap it out with a sweater which she looks super cute in (obviously)! We had a walk along and face meet with Coco and she wasn't the biggest fan -she was not focused on her during the walk along, didn't mind being within a few feet at all. She was much more interested in interacting with me while on leash, and was fine sharing the space. She sniffed Coco from behind and was non reactive. However, when they had a face to face meet she did growl and hard bark. She redirected without issue, and again was fine being within a few feet of Coco. I think she would do best as the only pup, but might do okay with another pup with an extremely slow intro.
Per staff 12/28: Took Sophia out for a walk this AM, she was eager and standing on the door wiggling. She used the bathroom outside and was hopping around super happy to be out and about. She got little spurts of zoomies while on leash and greeted me often with wags. I crouched down and she leaned right in for butt scratches, excitedly pushing into me and giving fast mid level wags. Hopped right back into kennel with no issues. Such a good girl!
Per staff 12/26: Sophia has come out of her shell so much since she arrived! She was standing with fast mid level wags on her kennel door and patiently allowed me to leash her. She was so brave on leash and now excitedly greets her handler as she walks and pulls (minimally) to go sniffing. She is a housebroken girl and was so happy to come and lean in for pets while we were outside. She loves butt scratches and would scooch back into me. She hopped back into kennel with no issues.
Per volunteer 12/23: Sophia is the absolute sweetest baby. She was at the back of her kennel when I approached and is timid and shy at first. She was nervous when we first left the shelter and had her tail tucked between her legs. She appears housetrained and peed as soon as we got outside. She started to open up a bit in the yard and played with some of the soft toys. She is very handler oriented and food motivated. She sat perfectly (as seen in the photos and videos), came when called, and generally listened well. She was very easy on leash, although she is skin and bones right now so she might have more energy once she puts on a an appropriate amount of weight. We went into the volunteer office after we were outside and she was a total cuddle bug, she climbed fully into my lap and wiggled into me for pets and cuddles. When I gave her a particularly good pet she turned herself upside down in my lap to get as close to me as possible. She was being brave and sniffed new people when they came in but would return to me after saying hello. She is looking for her person and will be an incredibly loving and loyal pup to whoever is lucky enough to adopt her.
Sophia is eligible for foster and adoption. Meet her at ACCT Philly any day of the week from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., or email foster@acctphilly.org to express interest in fostering her.
