Here's what the humans have to say about me:
My name is CHARLIE BUCKET and I am a happy 4 year old black lab weighing in at a healthy 80 pounds. I was turned in to SCLRR because my family could no longer take good care of me.
I came to SCLRR with major ear & skin issues, so SCLRR brought me to a doggie dermatologist and gave me some good medicine to stop the itch and let my hair grow back. Yes, if not attended to, I get super itchy and my hair falls out! So, I'll be on a maintenance program of medicine for the rest of my life.
My foster mom says I'm a medium energy dog - once I get my 1-3 mile hike/walk in the morning! I hike with my foster siblings, and they taught me good recall so sometimes we get to explore off-leash! I may get a second burst of energy in the afternoon, but with just a few ball chases with my foster siblings and I'm good for the rest of the day. Yes, I love to play with my 4 year old foster sibling and any other dog that wants to wrestle, chase a ball or just chase each other around the yard.
When I go for walks on-leash and I see other dogs, I get so excited I can't control myself - so my foster mom makes me wear pinch and beep collars to control me until I can ignore other dogs on-leash. Continued training with a professional trainer is a must to help me break this bad habit. Okay, so I'm not perfect, but honestly, who is!!! Now that we got that out of the way, let me tell you some of my good traits next..
I am a super happy, loving, playful boy. I am completely housebroken and non-destructive, but I will periodically drag my blanket around like the Peanut's character Linus! I don't like to see you leave - but because I have the company of my foster siblings, I'm okay with you leaving - as long as I've had my morning walk and breakfast! I get super excited when you come home, and I'm working on not jumping - okay, another thing you will need to work with me on.... So, maybe no small children, please.... I wouldn't want to accidently knock anyone down!!! I will follow you around just to be with you.
Charlie is a diamond in the rough, and will be a great dog for the person or family who want to invest the time to help him become his best self!
If you are interested in making this Lab part of your family, please contact your SCLRR family representative. If you have not yet applied with us, please submit an online application to adopt; an SCLRR volunteer will then contact you. Please note that your homecheck must be approved in order for you to be put in touch with the dog's foster home.
