My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

UPDATED BIO 10/3/2010: Evie is a darling 9-10 year old 6.4 lb little girlie who is being fostered in Largo, FL. She wanted to update all her adoring fans on her progress; so, here it goes:

"Evie the Diva here! I wanted to remind you I would still make the perfect cat, ehh, dog, for the less-active person in your life. I do love to take my walks, but if you don't have a yard, I am the one for you. I am the perfect size for a condo or apartment. I don't wander far at all, and my favorite thing in the whole world is to sit in your lap all day....or be carried by you! I guess every once in a while you'd better put me down to walk because I'm gaining a little weight and need to exercise more!! Foster mom still insists I'm more cat then dog because of my very laid back attitude. Oh yeah - I'm all recovered from my hernia surgery, all well and ready to go! xoxoxo P.S., no other dogs allowed please - just you!

UPDATED BIO 09/12/2010: Evie is a sweet 9-10 year old 6.5 lb little girl who is being fostered in Largo, FL. She asked her foster mom to borrow the computer for a sec so that she could update all her fans on her status. Here's Evie:

"Evie here, the Diva! Foster mommy said I had to let you know how much better I am feeling. The dogter said I had been in a lot of pain with the issues with my teeth, but I knew that. I am even getting a swish back in my tail. I am almost, but I repeat that, almost sociable with the other dogs. No, I still don't really want any others in my furever home. I do still want to be your one and only. I have been going out for more walks since I am feeling better and really do like to do that. Foster Mom was quite shocked when I actually walked over to a little girl and gave her kisses. So I guess if you have someone who is around 12 and gentle that would be ok.

I don't need a big yard. I don't wander a lot; just a real comfortable lap to lay in and a little playtime..... and oh yeah, don't forget those walks. So you see I'm real easy to take care of. I'm normally a very quiet, non-destructive, little lover. Very low maintenance, if it wasn't for the fact that I was in your lap, you would hardly know I was there. Remeber, I will insist on being in that lap; so don't think you're putting me down and walking away! That is not going to happen. I'll be right behind you. Oh yeah, I get my stitches out next week and will be ready to go. Put in your application in as you think of what a sweet little Diva I truly am."

UPDATED BIO 09/06/2010: Evie is a very cute 9-10 y/o yorkie mix who weighs 6.5#; she is being fostered in Largo, FL. Evie is recoving from surgery and is sticking to her Foster Daddy like glue. She should be ready for a new home after her stitches have been removed - in about 2 weeks. A few things Evie's foster parents have learned about Evie....as previously stated, she really does want to be the only dog in the home; altho she loves her people, she's not real crazy about having other dogs around. She is not overly active, but given half a chance she does like to go out and walk; but she is also just as happy to sit in her 'person's' lap all day. Her coughing issue will never completely be gone; she has a bit of bronchial asthma, but it is under control right now.

Evie does not appear to need an active lifestyle and she is really attached to the man-of- the-house. She will pick the flip-flops up and take them to the couch with her as her 'security blanket'. She does carry them around like they are her puppies and it is just the cutest thing to watch. She now knows how to go up and down the stairs, but will con you into picking her up - it's more fun that way. The dogter thinks she will be much more active in a few weeks, as she had been in a lot of pain from her dental issues. Please keep Evie in your thoughts and prayers and keep checking back for updates on her. Oh, and put in that adoption application if you want a little cuddle bug!

UPDATED BIO 07/20/2010: Evie is 10 year old 6.5 lb little girl who was rescued from a high kill shelter with an inguinal hernia and bad teeth. We are waiting for her kennel cough to resolve before we move forward with her sugery. Unfortunately, she had a slight setback this past weekend. Her coughing would not let up, and her FM took her in to see the Doctor on Sunday. They performed an Xray which showed a slightly enlarged heart. They said if it wasn't causing any problems, we could watch it. Otherwise, there is very inexpensive medication she can take if she needs it for her heart. We are giving her medicine to calm the cough and hoping this is just a proonged case of kennel cough.

In the meantime, Evie is acting just fine. She LOVES her laptime. She is a snuggle bunny. She has shown her foster mom and dad that she would prefer to be the only pup in the home. She is housetrained to go outside but has had a couple of accidents. Foster mom and dad are working with her on that. Silly Evie! She is a sweet little princess who is going to make someone so happy to have her! Please keep Evie in your prayers that this rotten little cough gets better soon so that we can fix her up! Thanks for reading about her!

UPDATED BIO 07/07/2010: Evie (the little princess) here. I'm 10 years old and 6.5 lbs (in case ya forgot!) Settling in at my new foster home in central FLA. I have got a few issues right now, but do hope to be ready to go within the month, so if you think I'm the one for you, go ahead and put in your application (so I can be ready to go home when your done being checked out!!).

Here's a little about me, I'm a sweet little princess. I have the funniest little talk when I want something. I'm not big on playing right now, but I do like to be chased. I like to eat my food, kind of when I want to eat, so if you put it down, I'll get around to it. I do like to sleep in your tummy at night and hang with you during the day. I am not a total lap dog. I can go off and hang by myself, but don't do it very often. Oh yeah and am also house broken. Only had one accident since I've been here, pretty cool, huh. So keep me in your prayers to get me thru these little surgeries and the kennel cough and I'll be ready to go before you know it.

UPDATED BIO 07/02/2010: It's Evie! Hey, do you wanna hear some great news?? Do ya? Well, I went to the Dogtor yesterday, and you know what he told me? That bump on my belly isn't a mammary tumor! It's a hernia! Yipppeeee! Recovering from a hernia is WAY easier than recovering from a mammary tumor!..... that and I don't have a tumor. So excuse me while I do a little happy dance!........ OK. I'm done now. Back to being serious....

Let's see..... what else is going on with me? Well, I contracted a nasty case of kennel cough. I have a productive barking cough. Foster mommy is giving me medicine to make it easier to breathe and two antibiotics to make the germies go away. She keeps close watch over me to make sure I eat and drink all I'm s'posed to. I do my business outside or on a wee wee pad. I like other dogs and cats. Really, I'm just the cutest thing, don'tcha think? Did you know I also have a natural tail? Tushie plumage I call it. The Dogtor says I'm 10 years old and 6 lb 13 oz. My weight is OK, but I need to put on some muscle. I'm being fostered by Colleen and Jerry in Largo, FL. They are the coolest! They have a big backyard, lots of other furkids to see, and Foster Daddy lets me sit on his lap for as long as I want to (and that's a long time!). Isn't he the coolest?

Well, foster mommy thinks I'll be in foster care for at least 3-4 weeks. If you want, submit an application for me and we can get started so that by the time I am ready, you're ready too! Thanks for reading about me and sharing in my happy news! G'night! xoxo - Evie.

INITIAL BIO 06/28/2010: There are a lot of things that go through a rescuer's head when trying to decide whether or not they can "pull" or "rescue" a dog from a grim fate at the shelter. The reason I went into breed specific rescue is because I physically cannot walk into a shelter and pick between the hundreds of wonderful dogs that are there. I much prefer to know that I am really only at the shelter to see Yorkie A, Yorkie B, Yorkie C, etc. :) Of course, nobody has blinders, and occasionally the little furball in the next cage over looks at you with pleading eyes..... and then it doesn't matter what's going through your head...... it's what's going through your heart. Case in point - Foxy the pomeranian. :)

Well, this past weekend I went to go look at sweet Evie. She was listed as 10 years old and all of 6.5 lbs. Of course 1/2 pound or more is the abdominal mammary tumor (or hernia... we're not sure yet) that makes her belly look distorted. It's a tough decision.... Do you take the senior who might be in rescue for a few months or save space for a younger healthier yorkie? The choice is clear to Evie. Sure, she's no spring chicken, but when I pulled her out of the cage to get a better look at me and she gave me a kiss, how could I leave her there to be put to sleep? I just have to trust that the expensive testing and surgery she is about to undergo will be be successful and that once again the wonderful people who read the stories of our rescues will open up their hearts and give what they can to help a sweet senior find happiness in her FURever home.

Evie came to her foster home tonight a bundle of matted, dirty fur. I snapped one picture before tossing her into the tub for a haircut (I love my clippers!) and a shampoo. Her teeth are in decent shape, and I'm hoping the vet gives me better news that Evie is less than 10 years old and that her mammary tumor is simply a hernia! Cross your fingers. After Evie's bath, I trimmed up her face (she could barely see) and clipped her nails. She HAS to feel better.

Sadly, she has a pretty rough case of kennel cough and will be requiring antibiotics. She did take a spoonful of wet food tonight, along with nutrical. I am hoping she pulls through all of this with flying colors and that the kisses she gives me will someday be laid of the forehead of the man or woman who decides to take a chance on a senior yorkie. I promise she'll be worth it. Thanks for reading about Evie. If you have any questions about her, please email me.
