...And Now a Word from Folio

Hey guys, it’s me Folio. I have a question. WHY AM I STILL HERE?? Don’t get me wrong, my foster family is great, but it’s time for me to move on to my forever home. Have you seen the photos of me after my spa day? I have to admit, I look like a whole new dog – soft, silky and mahhhhvelous.

My storm anxiety is practically gone now that I have discovered Thundershirts. My foster mom put it on me the other day when the weather was looking bad and she had to go out. While she was gone we had one heck of a storm, but I was cool. It was still storming when foster mom came home and she was amazed to find that I wasn’t panicked at all. I don’t understand how these things work, but they sure do. Although I'm sure my foster brothers will try to take all the credit for their calming influence!

By the way, I want to say a word about my eyesight. The vet may know something that I don’t, but it seems to me that I can see just fine. The other day there was a black cat outside our yard in the weeds and I had to bark at it to tell it to stay out of MY yard. Foster mom was trying to find out why I was barking, and for the longest time she couldn’t see the cat, but I could. Do you suppose foster mom has Collie Eye Anomaly?

There is a little dog staying here at my foster home named Cooper. He is a foster dog too and while foster mom and dad were working in the farm yard, Cooper sneaked under the fence. He might have run away or been run over by the tractor, but I alerted foster mom and Cooper was saved. Pretty neat, huh? It sort of reminds you of that famous collie who kept hauling Timmy out of the well.

Well, that’s all for now. Remember, summer is about over and when those cold winter nights hit, you will really need a soft, warm, loving collie to keep your feet warm. Don’t wait till the snow flies, snap me up NOW. And don’t worry, Iowa isn’t as far away as it sounds.

Update: July 25, 2010
Did someone say this sweet boy had vision problems? Well, you’ll have to convince his foster family, because according to them he watches Frisbees sail through the air and can spot distant cows in the field outside his home, even in dim light. His foster mom and dad even tested him by moving furniture around and putting obstacles in doorways and Folio adjusted instantly, never bumping into anything. While we aren’t saying that the vet didn’t know what he was doing, we are saying that if Folio has limited vision, he is a genius at hiding it.

Folio’s storm anxiety is very much improved now that he has gotten used to his Thundershirt. It may sound crazy, but these things really work. He still gets nervous and wants to be near his people, but he doesn’t panic.

Folio is doing well with the two cats that now live at this foster home and he loves spending time with the 6 year old boy there. He is such a friendly, loving boy that he gets along with everyone and would really like to have a gentle canine companion at his forever home.

Folio has shown that his talents extend beyond his ability to catch treats in mid air. He is also a bit of a Houdini. Recently his foster family let all the dogs out to play in the fenced yard and later, when they looked outside, they noticed a collie walking around outside the fence. A closer look showed that the escapee was Folio who had managed to slip through a small opening in the gate. Fortunately, he has great recall, but in the future he will need to be supervised while outdoors to prevent similar escapes.

Folio is looking for a loving, forever home where his family will be able to spend lots of time with him. Cats, kids, other dogs, bring them on. Folio loves everyone.

Description: Folio is a happy, gentle boy who has a smile and wag for everyone he meets. He has been around children as young as three and has nothing but love for the little ones. He is equally good with other dogs and when his foster mom’s daughter comes over with her senior lab, Folio follows the visiting dog around like a social director. He is extremely easy going and rarely barks unless he sees another dog while out on his walk.

Folio is a good boy who is fully housetrained and can be trusted alone in the house when his foster mom goes out. He doesn’t pull when walking on his leash and he loves to go for rides in the car. He happily catches treats in mid air, will sit and lie down on command and is getting better at coming when called, though he still needs some work. Folio behaves well at the groomers and loves to have his foster mom brush him.

Folio has collie eye anomaly which means that his vision isn’t as sharp as it should be, although according to an eye specialist, it should not get any worse. He is no Mr. Magoo, however, and gets around just fine, fearlessly racing up and down the basement stairs or cheerfully watching the world whiz by outside the car window. Folio recently had a full dental that included removal of two teeth. The vet says his teeth are quite worn, possibly from having chewed on the bars of a kennel or crate, and should be checked regularly.

Folio is a happy, gentle, laid back collie who has only one fear: storms. Fortunately, when he wears his thundershirt, he is much less frightened than he is without it. He also handles bad weather better if he has people around to make him feel secure. If a storm hits while his foster mom is gone, Folio heads for the basement (what a smart boy) and hides.

Folio is looking for a forever home where there will be someone with him most of the time, partially because of his storm fears, but mostly because he just loves people. He would be an ideal choice for a stay at home mom with one or more young children, or he would be a great companion for a retired person or couple. He loves lying outside in the grass, but should really have a fenced yard to prevent him from accidentally wandering off and becoming lost. He would be great with or without other dogs and though we have no direct experience with cats, he would most likely be good with kitties too. Folio is just one of those happy, easy going boys who takes life as it comes and showers everyone he knows with love. To know him is to love him.
