Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This is Bear.
Bear's birthday is 11/5/2022. She just turned 1.
Bear was originally adopted by a family with 6 boys with the intent to be a guardian for all of the kids, but specifically the youngest who has Downs Syndrome. Bear did great with all the kids and family, however the medical needs of the youngest increased suddenly and the family decided it was too much for them to handle anymore.
Bear has since returned to foster care where she has been going to work every day, being unofficially trained as a therapy dog.
Bear is incredibly socialized, going on car rides, meeting new people every single day, going to department stores, interacting with dogs of every size and energy level, being very gentle with all the foster kittens, playing with kids, and hanging out in the therapy office.
She is so gentle and well mannered, fixed and UTD on her shots. She only barks to notify us of important things.
She sleeps beside the bed at night. Listens well and is redirected easily.
Her quirks:
- Her tongue has always been excessively long. It hangs out of her mouth constantly. (It will never fail to make you smile to look over and see this big derpy goober with her tongue flopped out)
- She never ever handled a crate well. But she does fantastic in a fence or large kennel when you leave her.
- She is still a puppy and likes to chew especially wood and cardboard. We learned this early on and keep her supplied with empty Chewy boxes and pieces of firewood or board scraps. This has seemed adequate at keeping her entertained.
- She loves all toys. But her favorite toys are tiny mouse shaped kitten toys. When she plays with these, she thinks she is a kitten and she plays with the toy as though she is a kitten. (Not everyone enjoys 100lb Hefalump bounding about like a kitten, but it is enjoyable to watch.)
- She LOVES people, but specifically kids. The only time she's ever really "not listened" is when she is plodding towards a small child to be beside them. She doesn't run off. She doesn't cause harm. But if she's going to straight up ignore you, it's when she's got her eyes locked on a kid and she thinks she needs to go be with them.
Bear is an amazingly sweet, gentle, loveable goof, with a heart as big as her head. She would love a family with kids (or grandkids), or other dogs and cats.
Bear will need a securely fenced in yard.
