Here's what the humans have to say about me:
This handsome boy is Arlie, a 34 pound Australian Shepherd mix, also the happiest dog you’ll ever meet. We don’t know much about his past other than he was found on the side of the road in Mississippi.
He’s estimated to be between 11-12 months old and is 100% puppy! That being said, he is a ball of energy and is looking for an active family who enjoys the outdoors. We think he would make a great running partner!
This boy is the most social butterfly I’ve ever encountered! He loves people and wants nothing more than to meet everyone, be in your personal space and get all the pets. He’s also probably one of the sweetest dogs I’ve met, he just wants to please his person. Arlie loves belly rubs and head scratches and will cuddle up with you on the couch once he’s settled down. Everyone that meets him instantly falls in love with him.
Arlie loves to jump, either on his person or just in the air when he’s excited, And for being on the smaller side he can jump high! He’s even jumped over a baby gate. We have, however, been working on “no jump” but he tends to forget his manners when he’s that excited.
Arlie is crate trained but doesn’t like going in, he just has some serious anxiety! He sleeps well at night in his crate as long as he’s in the same room as you… anxiety.
He gives the BEST hugs, once let out of his crate he will wrap his arms around your shoulders and won’t let go until you tell him to. He sometimes gets so excited that he’ll nibble on your ear or arm but we’re working on “no bite” and he’s catching on quickly!
Arlie is completely house trained but we do let him out frequently during the day. He knows some basic commands but will need continued training, as his attention shifts quite quickly.
Arlie knows “sit”, “wait”, and his release of “ok”. With continued training he would absolutely thrive, he is just so smart and has so much potential! His recall is okay, but he really has a mind of his own and does things on his own terms so he’ll need continued work on the basics.
Arlie does great in the car, he’ll wag his tail any time he sees other people or try to get through the window at a drive thru to greet the employees. Arlie also loves toys and can’t ever decide which toy he wants so he’ll pull them all out of the toy basket to give each toy his attention for about 2 minutes until he’s moved on to the next.
He is more on the submissive side and would do great with another active dog who will play with him (especially to get a lot of his energy out) - his foster dog siblings want nothing to do with him no matter how hard Arlie tries to get them to play. He has never shown any aggression or resource guarding. His foster dog siblings have occasionally snuck away food, treats and toys from him and Arlie has no reaction. He is such a good boy and just wants a playmate.
He has been exposed to cats and is very interested in them, he wants to be in their personal space. He will back off with some redirection and when the cat lets him know he’s being too much, but has never been rough or aggressive with them - just tries to pet them with his paw.
Arlie does tend to pull while on the leash but has gotten a little bit better with each walk.
He loves all people, especially kids. But he does tend to jump and play so older kids would be best. With him being so interested in his surroundings a taller fenced yard is a must.
Arlie is on monthly flea/tick preventatives and will need more heartworm preventatives in April. Arlie is being fostered in Washington Court House, Ohio. Here is the link to the application: https://www.australianshepherdsfurever.org/adoption-application
All adoption fees are used to help pups like Arlie. There is a $20 microchip transfer fee which includes registration and transfer to his new furever family.
