This chunky meat sandwich is as wide as she is long, and the sweetest girl you'll ever encounter. Between her permanent tongue blep, and a nubbin that never stops moving, Muffuletta is working hard for her title of Cutiest Patootie at Muttville.
Here's some notes from her foster:
Muffaletta is a fun dog to foster! She's smaller in height but stocky and strong. She's loves belly rubs and will roll onto her back letting you know you're doing a good job. When she gently puts her paw on your leg or arm, because she wants another head rub, the heart melts!
During the day she snores by my side while I work on my laptop. She does not show signs of anxiety. Walks are short and on the slower side, 15-20 minutes. She's comfortable walking around the neighborhood (Lower Haight) which can be noisy.
While I get to know her behavior, we pass dogs on the sidewalk keeping a distance, and she does not show interest. She's VERY food focused. Great for training. She "sits like a queen, ready for her treat. If she thinks you have food, she will give you a sniff down.
I'm discouraging her from "rough play. Not sure if that is the kind of playtime she had in her former life. Muffaletta is learning we prefer gentle play over getting excited, jumping and mouthing - she's a very strong gal. A Kong with treats keeps her very entertained and she loves Nylabone dog toys.
Muffaletta is an energetic, messy eater. I realized unless a food bowl is really secure, she'll push and follow it across the floor. For now, I'm using an Ikea bowl and holding it while she eats. Observing her mouth, it's not easy for her to eat and be "dainty.
Muffaletta is a love bug and I look forward to connecting her with the furever home she deserves. She can do stairs but needs a home where she doesn't need to climb a lot of them.
