My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

Approx DOB 1/2012

Ginger spice came to us as an owner turn inr. We had her tested and she was positive. We held her and had her retested with a better test, and she still tested positive. Because of this, Ginger MUST be indoor only and no other cats int he home. Her immune system is compromised because of FeLV so she cannot EVER go outside.

THAT SAID, Ginger Spice is a wonderful, sweet, loving cat who deserves to have a home. Right now she must stay crated so as not to contaminate any other cats.

Here is what her foster mom has to say about her:

When I found in Cedartown, Georgia I was trying to survive in an apartment complex. I was taken in by a young lady who has a couple of dogs and several other cats. I was scanned for a microchip but who ever owned me never had one implanted. I was off the streets in a warm place but one cat was mean to me.
Sandy said she would foster me if Maine Coon Rescue said okay. I am sweet but timid. I love to be petted and have a great purr. What I’d really like is to be able to get out and play and run around like other cats. But since I tested positive for FeLV I cannot go out with the other Maine Coon Rescue foster cats. I need to be an only cat or with other FeLV positive cats.
There is no specific treatment for FeLV, so most of the treatment of FeLV-positive cats involves supportive care. FeLV-positive cats can live perfectly happy lives, and I deserve to do so. Because FeLV-positive cats have weaker immune systems, I may need to be treated for upper respiratory infections. Regular dental cleaning is very helpful keeping me from getting sick. My guardian will just need to be aware that I need to be taken to a veterinarian as soon as a problem is noted. Regardless of the length of my life, even with the virus I can lead an incredibly happy life, just like any other cat.

Ginger Spice is being lovingly cared for by Sandy, swacht1946@comcast.net, in Powder Springs, GA. If you would like to adopt Ginger please fill out our adoption application here http://www.mainecoonrescue.net/app_adoption.html
