Here's what the humans have to say about me:
NOTE: MILA IS WITH HER ADOPTER IN LODI, CA. GSRSV HAS NOT MET MILA. WE ARE LISTING HER ALONG WITH OUR OWN DOGS ON THIS WEBSITE TO GIVE HER MORE ADOPTION EXPOSURE. PLEASE SEE VERY END FOR CONTACT INFO.
"Mila" is a beautiful, 82-lb, 1-yo spayed female GSD who is very sweet, playful and energetic. Mila is healthy and UTD on core vaccinations (boosters not due until Aug 2024). Mila is very large for her age and is likely going to be huge for a female GSD.
Mila is super-friendly with everyone she meets, regardless of gender. In fact, she’s a little too enthusiastic in greeting strangers and so needs to learn not to jump up on people to give them kisses. Mila has been very friendly w/ the children she’s met, but again, needs to learn a more gentle approach to be safe around little ones.
Mila is fantastic with other dogs, and would surely do best in a home w/ another dog or more who she can play with. Mila has had playdates with her caretaker’s sister’s dogs and had a real blast!
Mila can safely be labeled as cat-friendly. She currently lives in a home with three cats and she has displayed no aggression towards them; one cat walks up to Mila's crate regularly and they share nose touches. However, due to Mila’s youthful exuberance, her caretaker (Bonnie) keeps Mila in a crate when around her cats so that Mila does not frighten them.
Mila is housetrained and does fine in a crate. Bonnie keeps her in a crate when she is gone from her house, and also crates her at night (to allow her cats free reign of the house).
Mila walks OK on leash, but does like to move at a brisk pace. She is very non-reactive towards other dogs that she sees on walks, including little dogs; she usually sits down to watch them. Mila doesn't bark or growl when she sees other dogs; she is simply curious.
Mila enjoys riding in a car and likes to ride with her nose out the window. However, she is afraid to get into the car and has yet to overcome that fear. On the few car rides Mila has taken, she sat nicely or laid down about 75 % of the time and walked back and
forth along the back seat the rest of the time.Mila loves to play fetch and to run zoomies around the backyard. She also loves squeaker toys and just tossing around old dish towels!
Mila also loves to play with water, whether it's a puddle from the rain or water from the hose. Though Bonnie has not given Mila an opportunity to swim, it’s likely that Mila would enjoy it given her love for water.
Bonnie adopted Mila from the Stanislaus County Shelter in Modesto back in October to keep her from being euthanized. Bonnie was open to adopting Mila, but one of her three cats is simply terrified of Mila and that seems to be affecting her other two cats. Further, Bonnie has come to realize that Mila is just too large and energetic a dog for her. Though she is committed to fostering Mila, Bonnie is now seeking a new, permanent home for her.
Mila will do best in an active home with another dog and ideally a nice size backyard so she can do her zoomies.
Mila is located in Lodi, CA. Her adoption fee is $150.
