My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Freya loves all people, knows how to sit, she did live with another male dog but can be reactive to female dogs. She has a lot of energy and harder toys would be best for her. She loves to go on walks, although she does need a little bit more leash training.

Their adoption process

Additional adoption info

Our process is an application. The applicants' background checks must be free of any animal cruelty charges and history of violence. It is the policy of the Humane Society that all animals currently living at the residence be spayed or neutered and current on their core vaccinations. We also look into the history of pets owned in the last 5 years to ensure they were appropriately vetted. We ask if there are going to be children living in the home and their ages. Adopters also list grandchildren that frequent the home. There are some general questions regarding pet ownership, adoption, surrenders, allergies and student status. The adopter is required to provide written landlord consent for all rental properties stating the tenants name and address. The Humane Society abides by all Pet policies unless otherwise specified/waived by an authorized representative of the rental property. There are specific questions aimed at both cats and dogs. Unless we have had certain pets for any length of time we recommend talking with your veterinarian about the advisability of a quarantine period. Finally, we contact 2 NON-relative references who can give us insight on character and pet ownership.

More about this shelter

The Humane Society of Otter Tail County was established in 1979. We are here to provide shelter for stray animals and find loving forever homes for many homeless pets. HSOTC is an independent, nonprofit agency. We are funded primarily by individual donations, fundraising events and fees generated from services we provide such as adoptions and holding stray animals. We do what we do to protect animals from cruelty, ignorance and harm through public education and advocacy.
