My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.

MOLASSES hails from Moose Lake in Northern Manitoba and came down south to find her forever family. She’s spayed, vaccinated including rabies and microchipped. We have no knowledge of her parents so the breeds we have her listed as are merely a guess based on the breeds she looks like. She’s just the sweetest little lady and she loves to cuddle up with you and will try and sit on your lap too. She’s pretty laid back and has a low energy level so would definitely suit a quiet home with a retired couple or one with someone who works from home.

MOLASSES is house trained and also crate trained and will sleep in her crate all night without a peep. She was originally fostered with an older cat who would just lay around or sit in his chair and she really took no notice of him. However she then went to another home and seemed to have a prey drive for the cat who lived there. So it’s hard to say whether or not she would get along with the next cat she meets and at this point in time, we’re not recommending she be with one even if they’re dog savvy. She’s really good with other dogs but she doesn’t appreciate rude dogs who’ll get into het face and bark at her as she’ll just bark right back. We are only letting her be adopted to an adults only home and one that doesn’t have children coming to visit. A fenced yard would be great for her as she does enjoy being outside.
A little bit of background history on MOLASSES: she was in her Northern community when one of the networks we work with had volunteers there to do a spay/neuter/Clinic and fell in love with the wonderful nature she has. She needed to have a spay but no one came forward to claim her afterwards so they decided she was too great of a dog to leave behind so brought her back with them. They then posted her for a rescue to take and this rescue stepped up to take her in. That little tidbit is important to point out on how they felt about her and it’s relevant to this next part about her.
Molasses was adopted out into a home for 9 months with young teenagers in it and there ended up being an incident and we now have to say she has a bite history. We’re a full disclosure rescue and this incident will be discussed in full with a potential adopter. It should be noted that as soon as we received her back into the rescue she went straight to a board and train programme for 4 weeks with a Behaviourist/trainer for a full assessment and she wrote up a very detailed report on her and it is also available to a potential adopter.

It is important that the adopter of MOLASSES be prepared to take her for basic training as it not only benefits her but will help to form a bond between her and her new owner.

If you feel MOLASSES would be suitable for your home and lifestyle plus you have somewhat of an understanding about her then please fill out an application to meet her.

Additional adoption info

Dogs: $750 (as of March 2024)
Cats: $250
The adoption process involves a brief application for the pet you are interested in. We will review your application and if you appear to be a good match for the pet, we will contact you for a phone interview. If that is successful we then do a vet reference check. If all goes well we will then set up a meet and greet for you and anyone else living in the home including any resident dogs with the pet. We then ask you to go home and contemplate your decision on adopting the pet and let us know your decision within 24hrs of meeting the pet. If applicable we will then move forward with the adoption at a mutually agreed upon time.

Go meet their pets

We only set up meet and greets with our animals once an adoption application has been submitted. We do occasionally have meet and greets with our animals at Global Pet Foods in the Barrie area.

You can check out the available pets on our rescuegroups website or on our rescue Facebook page.

More about this rescue

We’re a small rescue with a big mission to save animals in our Northern communities, local Pounds and owner surrenders (under certain circumstances.) We’re located in Barrie, Ontario and we serve the area of Simcoe County and within a two hour radius of the Barrie area.
Our intakes are placed in loving foster homes until they’re assessed, vetted including vaccines, microchip and a spay/neuter (if over 6 months of age) before they leave the rescue to be adopted. Female puppies are spayed at 6 months of age and males 8 months of age.)
We’re always looking for additional foster homes as we can only do intakes if we have foster homes for them to go into.
