Hi, my name is Emerald and I'm 47 lbs. of cuddly sweetness once I know I can trust you. I'm a 4-year-old EB mix and my foster mom calls me "sweet girl". I'm crate trained but would rather spend my time with my humans rather than be in my crate too often. I'm completely potty trained and haven't had an accident yet. However, if I get really stressed out, such as a trip to the doggy Dr, I stress poo and need to go RIGHT NOW, but you'll know I'm stressed before it happens!!
I spent a lot of time in my crate in my last home, so I haven't been socialized and am learning how to interact with strangers and other animals. I also wasn't leash trained, but my foster mom got me a snazzy new harness and we go on walks every day. I am still very scared and reactive to all of the new sounds and people/animals in the world, so my foster mom has been teaching me how to "leave it and sit." When I get overwhelmed while we're out and about, this prompts me to sit down for a treat (she keeps a stash in her pocket) and this distracts me from what spooked me. I'm very sensitive to "stranger danger" and fear strangers, so I need slow introductions in a safe space, but the people I've met so far have won me over eventually (treats are a good icebreaker). However, I do get very protective of my home and human, so when someone comes to the door, I let them know I'm the great protector of this home.
I have some skin issues that my foster mom is helping me with, but they won't stop me from becoming adoptable! I'm very good at bath time and play statue until I'm told it's ok to jump out. As is normal for a bulldog, I will need a limited diet and regular maintenance to keep my skin allergies under control, other than that, I'm recently spayed and healthy! I am so eager to please you once I know I can trust you, and I get hurt feelings and pout when my foster mom scolds me. I love to wiggle my butt and cuddle, I LOVE to play with my toys and chew my bones, and I like to stick my nose into everything my foster mom is doing in case she needs my assistance.
I will do best in a child-free home as I get stressed out with the little ones. I will do best as the only animal and queen of my castle so hopefully you don't have any dogs or cats. My foster mom has gotten quite smitten with me; she tells me how smart I am and calls me "silly girl" when I get frisky with my toys and toss them around then chase them. I can entertain myself with my toys and then I'm ready for a nice long nap, preferably on the couch with you, or in my bed on the floor near you.
Because I still need work with socialization and acclimating to the scary busy world around me, I would do best with someone that has dog experience and can be VERY patient with me while I blossom and continually learn to trust humans. My foster mom says I have LOTS of potential and l have sooooo much love to give to the right home. So, if you think you could be patient with me and my needs and love me unconditionally, I would be sooooo happy to meet you and find my Furever best human and home. I think I could be your best little cuddle buddy if you take a chance on me, and I'll show you how well I can toss my own toys then chase after them!

Additional adoption info
Adoption fees are based on the breed, health, age, and behavioral status of each dog. All dogs are microchipped, spayed or neutered, vaccinated, flea/worm treated and have had a wellness exam before becoming adoptable. If you are interested in adopting a BHNW dog, please fill out the online application. If you are matched to the dog you are interested in or another dog in our program, you will be contacted by the foster family. Prior to adopting, there is a mandatory home evaluation to ensure your home and family are ready for that dog. We require a contract for all adoptions and there is a two-week trial to ensure a good match. If for any reason you can no longer care for the dog you adopted from us, that dog must be returned to our program.
